Flip's truly magical rope magic

Postby connor o'connor » Sep 8th, '06, 10:01

Flips truly magical rope magic DVD

The Effect

You get 5 routines, and an extra section on rope penetrations plus a few words on rope

Cost

£28.99 alkazam stock it but so do mant others

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

from 1 to 5, all can be done with practise as all moves are tought from basic. I can now do all the moves, but it took me a few hours just to get one of the instant knots to work when I wanted it to  . It will take me a lot longer to get it slick for a performance.

Review

Flip is a true magic great in my opinion, and it must be remembered in the video that english is not his first language. His explanations are clear and concise but you have to watch closely with rope magic as some moves are imposible to describe verbaly.
The 6 routines (The rope penetrations could be stand alone) are very short and slow for my own taste (this may be due to flip slowing it down to concentrate on the english) I usualy tag two routines together or mix them up a bit. You can see from the video that this is one long routine that has been split into smaller ones.
You get a couple nice knot sections, a good cut and restored section, a funny(well it is for kids) costumes with rope section and my favorite ring and rope section. For some reason flip is working a very hard audience and the reactions on the video to his tricks are poor which sort of bores you (just like the wife when I do a flawless practise section of something she has seen a hundred times "yes thats nice dear" she says without even raising her eyes from her book :? ). Bear with this when you do the tricks for real you'll see they are stronger than in the dvd.
If you want to get this on friday and do all the routines on saturday don't buy this, but if you wish to gain great rope dexterity, are willing to put in a lot of time to learn a few more great moves then this is for you.

Overall

I would give this 9/10. Put in the practise (and it will take a lot) and you will have a very full bag of rope tricks at your disposal.

Not interested in Rope! I love rope magic, its simple, packs small, kids and adults understand it, and it's stupid, theres no point to it but it fasinates people. If you get this dvd and the fibre optics dvd, (which is easier to learn, is a whole routine and is v.strong stand alone) then for about £60.00 you'll be on your way to fall in love with rope like I have :D

Hi Connor

I've reviewed ths before but it's nice to see a new review. I agree with your review - it's a nice routine plus a few bonus effects.

As you like the two routines that you've mentionned, try Ring 'N' Rope next by Jahn Gallos. I'd rate is slightly better than Flip's routine as you can involve a member of the audience into some of the comical parts and the rope / ring transpo's are equally stunning to a spec, particulalry if they're holding the ring.

After Ring N' Rope I'd then go for the Tabary routines which use different techniques or variances in some cases. I've also posted reviews on these if you wish to search.

Anyway, nice review and nice to see another ropie on TM

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!
