Mine wasn't shrink-wrapped.
I have seen copies sold on e-bay for inexplicably high prices (we're talking multiples of the as-new price from the website). Unless there has been a sudden decrease in the number of very daft people around I'd be very surprised if you couldn't get rid of it for zero or very little loss at worst.

If you sell it cheap, or sell it at all, you'll kick yourself. Best suggestion is to scout around for a low cost VCR - I don't think PictureBook will be available on DVD in the forseeable future.

Wise words indeed.

Many times this video has teetered on the brink of extinction. For what it costs, I'd advise a low-cost VCR.

This is worth far more in ownership than it is in it's monetary value.

Definatly, buy a vcr and you will agree that the cost was worth it, if you don't you will really miss out! Whe I first bought my copy I thought it was a little pricey as it was the most expensive magic video I had bought, but if I ever had to replace it I would happily pay more twice what I did, that is probably why it is selling for such high prices on ebay, (that and the fact that it is being bought by non magician Brown fans who couldn't get it from the website!).

I've just chucked my VCR out. Can't stand the hunking great things. And I've got a whole big bag of videos I'm selling at car boot.

So buying a VCR is not an option.

Can I get it transferred onto a DVD do you think?

I know I'm an idiot but it was you guys saying how great it was that made me impulsively buy it so frankly it's your fault

You could possibly:

a) Develop strong friendship with someone who has a VCR and the room to store it.

b) Keep nipping into Comet to 'try out' their machines - should take you about 8 years to get through it at that rate.

c) Your idea of tranfer to DVD might work but not something I have any experience of, sorry. There might be some copyright issues but, if you've bought the vid then it's certainly better than just pirate copying.

my copy, just arrived this morning, just as i was leaving for college (damn) ive just managed to watch the first hour and i keep itching to touch them cards and have ago myself. The content of this video is worth alot more than the curent price and the tips on presentation are priceless.

A word of advice, if you need to own a VCR to watch only one video, then this is the one.

Im off to work now so ill have to wait untill tomorow to watch the rest, aaaagh!!! the frustration. But WELL WORTH the wait.

When I ordered my copy, i was expecting a 2-3 weeks wait. It came in 2-3 days!! Thanks Derren. The video is amazing and takes pride of place on my video shelf. I really like all of it!!

It might be much quicker, and probably cheaper, to nip round to Derren's place, take a bottle or two, and ask him if he'll get the distributors to release it on DVD as well!

NOW THERES AN IDEA?!

Why am I shouting?
You know, if enough people emailed them and stated the obvious, the commerciality of it might get them to change their mind, just an idea.
A classic case of action not moaning if you want something done.

EDIT : only email I could find on the site is for Derrens management -
info@derrenbrown.co.uk
let them know a dvd edition would be a nice idea :) but be nice, I am sure there is a valid reason it's only on video, as far as I know Derren is not allergic to money :)

could we try and stick to the review of the video?...all references to duplication have been removed as they do not help in a review sense and are NOT condoned by this site in ANY way

Incidentally, I have just heard - from a fairly good source that there is a company in Texas that may be converting it to DVD to sell.

I believe that this is with Derren Browns blessing - but will try to find out more details and then post it here...

I spoke to Derren in person yesterday at the international magic convention. He stated that there are no plans to convert it to DVD, as extra scenes would be needed, he can't be bothered at the moment and is too busy with his tour , new TV programme and trying to break into the US market.

Sorry to be the bringer of bad news.

That is a shame, maybe he is allergic to money after all!

I think this thread demonstrates that just a straight port to dvd, with no extra work would have been fine and we would have been happy for somebody else to do the work other than Derren, lol.

I have a strange image of Derren struggling with Nero and a dvd writer, have to do a hundred copies, have to do a hundred copies...

On a more serious note, any juicy info from the convention you wish to share with us?
