Escalator By Gaeton Bloom

The Effect

The effect begins as a generic ambitious card routine but ends with a kicker. You put the cards back into the box with the signed card sticking out. The sign card can be seen to move from the top of the deck to the bottom.

Cost

Varies from £69.00 to £80 most dealers stock this (e.g. http://www.jbtv.co.uk)

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

2 -3 depending on your experience

Review

Well i have had this for over a year and just remembered i have never reviewed it

This effect really divides people. Some hate it and say that it is too expensive for a fancy ambitious card routine. Others (like me) really like it. Having used this in a working environment i can say it gets really great reactions.

There are drawbacks. The first is the price, the main problem though is that you really need to watch your angles. Not an effect to attempt until you are completly confident with it.

On the plus side, the reset is easy and the reactions to this are very good. The box will last you a liftime.

For your £60 - 80 you get the card box and a great DVD that explains handlings, makes suggestions etc.

As i said this really divides people but you may like it!

Overall

6/10 nice effect but that price may put some people off.

As time goes by, so links do die! Both links in the previous two posts are broken, so here are a couple of updates:

You can purchase from PenguinMagic www.penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=1059 for $100

Or, from The Magic Warehouse http://www.themagicwarehouse.com/cgi-bi ... tem=LP4035 for $90

You can see a video demo on YouTube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dvRtl5LOsA

My Thoughts (where's my two cents?)
When the video started I thought "$100 for a rising card trick?" I made my own out of an old deck of cards! Then he turned the cards, in the card box, towards me. "Oh right, now he's showing that he's not using his thumb or finger--but it's still just a rising card." Then I fell on the floor!

The card did rise, (remember, the deck is in the case, held flat, open end towards you) but it started at position 1 in the deck and slowly moved down to position 52, the back up to position 1--just like an escalator. Even if you're not in the market for this type of magic, it's worth looking at the demo just to see someone take a trick that's old and tired and turn it upside down. Excellent!

However, at $100 it will be in my Wow Wishlist for a long time.
