Magic Mints (Magic Linking Candy)

Postby lalacup » Oct 7th, '06, 10:26

Magic Mints - VISUALLY link two Lifesavers WITHIN INCHES of your spectators eyes. Follow it up with THE FRESHEST FINISH IN MAGIC. Highly recommended!

From: Penguinmagic at US12.95

Difficulty: 1/2 (On a scale of 1 to 5)

The Effect

1. Take out a pack of Lifesavers.

2. Pop two candies out of the pack.

3. Link together.

4. Take apart.

5. Pop in mouth and enjoy :-)

No funny moves. No pre-linked candies. No glue. No magnets. No wires. No strings. No pulls.

Whew. Exams are finally over. I guess i can get back to magic stuff :P
ok to start off with, this is a great trick. everything is as described. the effect and linking 2 lifesavers/polo candies together.

This is a great trick i would recommend for those who likes practical magic and those easy to carry around. all you need is a packet of sweets where you place the gimmick in and you are ready to go.

What you get in the package is a gimmick and another 'thing' similar to the gimmick. the 'thing' can be used as a backup gimmick if you lose your original or you can just leave it as it is and play with it and a manuscript which teaches you handlings to end clean. so you just take 2 mints out of your packet of sweets and link them together, play around with it and throw it around it doesnt matter, because until your magical hands pluck them out, it is quite difficult to separate them together just by throwing it around. you can put it on the spectator's hand too, although abit risky, chances are very low that they spot the gimmick.

The cons of the effect is just that you have to be careful and not flash the gimmick to your spectators. Another one is that it is not easy to find a packet of lifesavers in my country, so i will have to use polo candies and be more careful while letting the spectators examine the candies.

Gimmick: 9/10
Price: 10/10 (what more do you expect when you can get a great practical trick at just 12.95?!)
Overall:9.5/10

great trick, great price, great investment.
Get it. You would not regret it

Do you have to keep moving your hands back and forth like he does in the demo video to keep the gimmick from being detectable? That would seem awkward in real life situation. I would guess people would say "stop doing that so I can see the linked mints". Is this an issue?

no it all depends on how you want to handle the gimmick. it is almost invisible and thus almost impossible to spot the gimmick too. just dont let them play with the candies too much. letting them toss it around is fine. see how cyril takayama performs this trick; he does a very good and clean performance with it.

I have toyed with the idea of purchasing this trick for a while.
How quick is it to do?
Can you perform it in view of the spectators without obvious detection?

It certainly looks impressive from the demo.

Brilliant trick, but because CUPS came over me, I brought the lifesavers version instead of the polo's version because they didn't have the polo version in stock...ah well.

I can still do it without anyone detecting it. Brilliant trick, althought I haven't done it in a while.

And

What you get in the package is a gimmick and another 'thing' similar to the gimmick

I don't remember another "thing"? I only got the main gimmick..?

Good trick and a very nice review, lalacup.
It's also difficult to find Lifesavers in my country, but we do have Polo :)

To lord freddie, yes, everything is as impressive in the demo and even more impressive when cyril takayama performs it; it only means that you can be the one who can do it better than the 2 of them. this is a great trick worth its price definitely.

In response to k88's comment, i got 2 of them in my pack. One has been gimmicked and another is almost the same as the gimmick just that the gimmicked part is gone. You can easily change the second one into a gimmick if you want, but it can remain as it is. I dont know about what you got but i certainly got 2 in mine.

Thanks, this will have to go on my list for future purchases.
There is a good trick in Mark Wilson's "Complete Course In Magic" which uses "Lifesavers" (or Polo mints) which just requires a pack of the sweets and a shoelace.
It would certainly work if the two tricks were perfomed together!

Yes, many magicians know the trick with ring on a string. I'm sure this can be combined with the lifesavers too :)

Definitely a good idea, Freddie. Combining tricks together and making each phase more and more impossible is just what every magician should do to get that priceless audience reaction they want.

Thanks.
Also, when you build on an effect with ones using the same objects, yhe spectator is often diverted from the secret, particularly if you open the trick with a normal packet of Polo's for the shoestring one and then do a subtle switch for the linking effect.
Because the first trick used a sealed, normal packet (which they could obviously supply themself) any suspicion is deflected.
Mmmm, definitley going to buy this one now and try this little combo out. :D

I'd like to see someone magically twist two Twislers together. That would be awsome. :)
