Heading North Plus: review

Postby Ed » Nov 23rd, '06, 22:56

Hey guys, here is another review for a trick named: "Heading north plus" its by David Regal. first of let me start by saying that there are two different effects that you can do with the gimmick and both are amazing so lets get started.

THE EFFECT: like I said there are two effects, so here they are. the first effect named "Heading north", the effect is a selected card rises from the center of the deck, and the whole deck may be examined! here is the second effect its named "Rising Transpo", and the effect is, two cards are selected and shuffled back into the deck, then one of the cards slowly rises from the center of the deck and it is tossed face down to the table. a magical gesture and another card rises... but its the same card as the one just tabled. the tabled card is turned over --it has become the second selection!

THE GIMMICK: what you with this trick are two gimmicks, one is a blue backed card gimmick and the other is a red backed card gimmick. so you have a gimmicked for both decks blue and red! when I recived the trick and looked a the gimmick I thought that they were ordianry cards, that is how well they look, the gimmick is only one card thick, they arent two cards glued togehter, there arnt any magnets or pullys or strings on the gimmick it is just an ordianry playing card.....you can have a spectator look at the gimmick close up and it will look like a normal card to them. the gimmick cant break, its virtually impossible gor the gimmick to break unless you rip the card in half then its broken other than that it wont break. so I give the gimmick a 10/10

THE SET-UP: there isnt much of a set up excpet that you have to put the gimmicked card into the deck and that is it. once you have the gimmick card in the deck you are set for ever, you can do card tricks while the gimmick is in the deck you can play cards you can do anything casue the gimmick is so well contsructed. I've had this trick for a while now and all I did was put the gimmick in my deck and that was it, I still played cards with the gimmick in the deck, I still peformed other tricks, all I had to do was when I wanted to do this effect was find the gimmick card that was it. So I give the setup a 10/10.

THE METHOD: the method is a very good one, no one will ever figure it out. the method is so easy that it makes the tricks virtually self working. and since you can do two differnent routiens with the gimmick it makes the method even better! so I give the method a 10/10

TRICK #1 (HEADING NORTH): I'm gonna talk about hte two diffent tricks now and rate them. the first tirck is a normal card rising effect. the specatator picks a card which is then lost in the middle of hte pack and you hold the deck in your hand and slowly out of hte middle of a deck a card starts to rise out of the deck. when its done rising the spectator can take out the card themselves and hten examin the deck! what makes this tirck so cool is that it is super easy to do all you gotta do is practice in front of a mirror for 20 min. and thats it. I give this trick a 9/10.

TRICK #2 (RISING TRANSPO): This is my favorite of the two tricks, cause it uses two specators, and at the end they are complely shocked. like I said before two spectators pick a card, and both cards are then returned and lost in the deck, then the deck is held at ur finger tips, and a card starts to rise out of it, lets assume it was the 5 of diamonds. the 5 is tossed out of the deck and then you hold the deck again at ur finger tips but so the backs of the dck are facing the audiance to buld up the suspense. then slowly another card rises and you ask spectator two what there card was lets say they say king of clubs, you look kinda shocked and turn the deck around so the audance can see the card, the card that rose is the 5 of diamondsd wichi you tabled earlier they turn the tabled card over and it is the king of clubs! This is a very neat effect, I like transposition effects, and this is my favorite transpo yet. cause it uses a transpo and a rising effect all at once. this trick isnt hard to do at all infact the gimmick card makes this trick virtually self working. I give trick number 2 a 10/10.

here are some pros and cons about the tirck's

PROS:
its very easy to do
really no sleight of hand involved
the spectators wont see anything fishy going on
the gimmick is well made and is invislbe to the audiance
you can put the gimmick in your deck and have it here forever.

CONS:
you cant do this trick surrounded it is slighly angle sensative.

OVERALL: This trick is very good, its super easy to do so you can work more on your presentaiton than the sleights, there are two different tricks taht come with the trick "heading north plus". I reccomend that people who enjoy transposition tricks should get this trick and people who like rising card effects should get it, also people just starting magic should get it cause its easy to do and you'll get great reactions.
The over grade is a 10/10!
