If you can hold a deck of cards in your hand without dropping them all over the floor, you can do this effect. No sleights, no hassle.
Effect:
Magician runs through the cards, cutting them into two piles. The spectator is given one pile to hold onto (you can have them put it ANYWHERE). Then, spreading through his own pile, the magician asks the spectator to pick one but not name it, just think of it and remember it. The pile of cards is now placed on the table.
The performer asks would spectator be impressed if he/she named the card, and the magician made the card disappear and move to the packet the spectator has been holding. He then asks if they'd be more impressed if he didn't touch the cards to do it. Finally, he asks if they would be even MORE impressed if they didn't even name the card? The spectator is then asked to concentrate on the card to "project" the image of the card to the performer. In an instant, the performer can clap his hands, say a magic word, or whatever. Spreading the cards face up reveal the chosen card (which the magician DOES NOT KNOW) is gone.
The spectator turns over their half of the deck, and sure enough - the selected card is now in their pile!
Opinion:
This is a cool little effect that can work well in a walkaround situation. The description is exactly as it says - no sleights, entirely self-working, and it IS angle-proof. The only drawback is the cards aren't examinable, but with the right presentation and some quick moves, you can easily remedy the situation.
The only problem I've ever encountered with this, is that the size of your audience can bring A LOT of suspicion down on you. Without revealing the method, I'll just say that this trick will also work on someone whom you haven't asked to participate. This effect really should be kept to a walkaround situation, where one or maybe two people are around you at a time.
Overall, a cool mentalism effect that can be performed within 2 minutes of receiving the purchase. If you're not a fan of gimmicks, then look elsewhere for your mentalism. If gimmicks aren't a problem, by all means, give it a shot.
Overall: 6-7 out of 10
Good reactions, easy to do - not examinable and multiple spectators can cause a ton of suspicion and get you caught.
