matt wainwright wrote:i have to say dont buy this one...
why?
its well overpriced
£20 for a 14 minute dvd that looks like a home movie shot in some teenagers bedroom (no that kind of movie!)
an effect that will be hard to pull of in "the real world " working conditions
no way could this be done surrounded, also the angle the spec has to watch from has to be spot on
i've bought other dvd's for this price with 90 plus minutes of magic and explanations

have to quote.
poor quality, kevin seems a not experienced magician, because do not says anything about the presentation, and all other stuff concerning the performance.
Just says: do like that, stop.
very poor.

ANGLE: very angle sensitive...in the video you can't find out the "trick" because it's recorder by the perfect angle...really not happening in the real world.

didn't really like it

Im sorry but I just dont agree with your review mate, I bought the trick with high expectations, and i was let down big time. I have nearly all of kevins tricks and this is by far the worst. I Love his others, its the sort of thing you would fool people with in primary school, and is way over priced. Dont buy if you expect to do this walk about, it is simply impractical and too angle sensitive. Just my opinion, thanks

PS justjay was subequently banned but for other unacceptable posts as well as this one.

You should really read the rules first you know regarding trade and sale of DVDs.

Since this is up towards the top, I'll share my 2cents worth on Nexus.

I actually like it. However, going along with a lot of various effects I know-it isn't an everyday usuage type trick. Always better to know more than the average Joe-in my opinion. Just because you know how or can do XXX trick doesn't mean you HAVE to perform it everyday/everytime for someone.

this is a trick, under the right circumstances, is good to know how to do in my opinion. I've only performed this a few times, but, have had pretty good reactions with it and was fun to do.

The only difficult part is, you almost want this to be a one on one presentation/trick (nothing wrong with that) AND if not, it is kind of tough for everyone to see. Angle wise and because a ring and keychain are so small to begin with. If you do this for 4-5 people and to get the angle right, you have to step back a bit- making the ring/keychain even smaller. I think it also helps if done in a room LESS lit...and thats tough for anyone to see.

But again, I believe it's good one to know- for the right circumstance.

is it overpriced? to each it's own... but I'd lean on the yes side.
Did I buy it anyways? Sure.. Looked good and works just fine. I liked passing thru, but do I see the "right" bottles around all the time to perform it from a spec borrowed bottle? no.. So, again, its one I only do every so often. Does that mean it's garbage or over priced? Up to you, but good to know how- just incase (I'd say)

All this said,
I would much rather get something like Nexus in a DVD with a few other "off the cuff" type effects from Kevin.- If he had more to offer, that is. Even if the DVD was a tad more.

I'd agree the teaching on the secret is ok on the DVD, but not the best teaching video or well produced one I've seen. If you watch when he goes out on the street to actually perform this, you get the idea on how to peform. It's not rocket science. I'm not one for following to the "T" a patter that comes along with a trick (if there is one)... so, just get the secret and run with it. That said, it really is the person viewing who decides if this is junk or not.

If I got a video or instruction that JUST showed a move or secret without the full routine or patter or whatever.. I'd still use it if it worked. Or at least keep it in my back pocket for the right time. Similar with this one. Nice to know how.. and doesn't require you to carry any sort of prop for a "just incase" trick. If the opportunity presents itself.. you are set with just a little bit of knowledge.

There are some people, that need the secret and step by step- word by word patters to go along with it. if you are looking for this..This is not it.

Knowlege is all this one takes. Can be done if given the right situation with no props. So, that to me is a good focal point in whether to purchase or not.

My mixed review.

Price: 5/10- Ok, but this trick could be added in with a compilation vid.
effect: 9/10-only minus pt for objects borrowed being so small.
DVD overall: 7/10. Minus' for poorer quality

This last post makes sense. How many times have you all performed and you manage to really catch the attention of one guest? I often get approached after having done a table or a larger performance by someone who is keen to talk to me and see more stuff. Nexus looks a great idea for that situation. Or if you are in conversation with someone and they learn that you are a magician. This would work nicely. It does not appear to be the kind of effect that would feature in a set list. It looks a great effect for the spur of the moment.

It is also available for download at about £9 now.

Todd,
that is correct.

Its not a set peformance trick to do all the time.

But, it works great for the situations you descibed above.

I don't remember what post it was in or who said it, but I look at this kind of like a levitaion effect.

Angle sensitive, and not something you do say table hopping because of the other people in the resturant not at the table you are peforming to. But, say someone sees you in the parking lot afterwards and wants to see that one last thing.. well, this is a good one with their borrowed objects that can leave an impression.

Nexus I found out imediately when I saw the promo vid on his page and any one can do so.
just use your imagination and dont search to far.

I reckon that all of Kevin Parker's products are way over priced.
its not that the tricks are bad, but the quality of the videos are embarassingly bad for the price you pay.
comparing his products to wayne houchin's, you can really tell the differnce in professionality of presentation and teaching.

but neverless, he is a smart guy to pull peoples money out of their pockets so easily.
