Vintage Series 1800 Cards

Postby trickyricky » Jan 16th, '07, 12:36

Dont know why, but i seem to be a sucker for these new decks that seem to be coming out recently.

The Effect

Its just a normal deck of cards, so you can do any trick that doesnt require a trick deck.

That said, they should be releasing a full range of trick and gaff decks soon, if you're into that sort of thing.

Cost

1 deck - $5.95
3 decks - $5.95 each + savings on shipping
6 decks - 10% off
12 decks - 15% off

http://www.ellusionist.com/order/series1800/

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

52 - Im kidding. Theyre cards!

Review

Imagine a normal deck of red bicycle cards. Now imagine that you threw them into a cave or your basement for 200 years. These look exactly how you would expect those cards to look like after all that time. Battered, worn, and fragile. Except they arent useless. The handle just as well as a new deck of bikes!

Each and every card is different. The cracks and shading has been individually designed for each card, box and deck seal. Even the advertising cards look old and worn. They really do look fantastic!

There is probably going to be the age old discussion about Ellusionist cards being called by the spec for being a trick deck. My approach to this has always been to let them examine them and shuffle them, unless, of course, it is a trick deck. I dont see why this should be a problem anyway. We as magicians should be able to present a patter for these cards that makes them acceptable in the spctators mind (eg. A deck that was handed down to me from a very old and wise magician, or whatever).

The cards could also be used individually with a normal deck. An effect that involves ageing a card maybe. Or ageing the entire deck and the chosen card is the only one not aged. There may even be a possibility of a sort of marked deck performance seeing as all the backs are different. There is plenty of room for imagination with these cards.

Overall

They are a great deck, but i cant see myself giving up my Masters for them. Maybe once in a while i will perform with them, or incorporate them into an effect like i have already said. Really worth a look if you have a bit of money spare.

12 out of 13.

You have to give E 10 out of 10 for presentation and promotion, the whole page is just sheer temptation - and all for a deck of cards!

:D

Will be at NUMS before the week is out.

Initial price will be £4.50 per-deck, max of 4 decks per customer. And on these decks, there is ZERO postage. i.e. postage is free. Obviously, if you order other items, that will incur postage.

First come, first served.

Based on Ellusionist's prices to get these to UK, they break down like this:

Ellusionist to UK
3 x Vintages from Ellusionist = $30 (approx) which includes shipping at their lowest rate
+ an estimated £5 duty charge
+ 1-5 weeks delivery
= £20 approx.

NUMS to UK
3 x Vintages from NUMS = £4.50 x 3 = £13.50
Delivery is free, 2 days max from date of order
= £13.50

First come, first served. They'll be going online at 8pm tonight (Tuesday 16th Jan)

So we can probably look forward to Vintage Gaffs, Vintage Sven, Vintage Strippers (no, don't even go there!) and other variations?

ha...I've broken the CUPS cycle! I've just followed the link to NUMS looked at the vintage 1800's and not purchased! It took courage...in fact I went as far as adding a deck to my cart...actually it's the thought of mrs lmw nagging at me..."what do you need those for...?" that put me off!

Seige...maybe if you could send me a promotional pack I'd be happy to review them...oh and then of course I'd see it only fair to to give a donation to NUMS about £4.50 should be ok I'd have thought...?

just can't justify it to wifey right now, I might need (note need not want...) to source a deck or two from somewhere after pay day (9 days goes quick if you don't think about it)! :D

P.S. Good review by the way!

oh go on then...sold...

just ordered two decks from nums...

if anyone is building a little routine and want some currency to mess about with and age...cards4magic.co.uk have a small selection of reprinted money...you could just play around with a pot of sepia ink and some dry brushing or whatever...

Just say you have no idea what came over you, it was a momentary lapse of resolve, something which won't happen again in 100 years. Then say the same thing next week when you've bought even more stuff  !

I'm sailing close to the edge here...think I need to stop buying stuff (for at least a day!) unless anyone has a copy of my avatar with a black eye?

Seriously though I must admit she is very good and I'm so lucky to have someone who understands my affliction, and more importantly puts up with it...even if she does think I'm mad!

(see you can tell I'm new...my wife hasn't gotten bored with it yet!)
