Art of Card Manipulation Series

Volume 1.
Name: Art of Card Manipulation vol.1 by Jeff McBride (DVD format).

Price: Ranges from £25-£28 for DVD, PAL format video is £23.99.

Difficulty: Insert it and press play. The contents covered in this video are the groundings for the other 2parts to the Art of Card Manipulation Trilogy.

Running Time: Approx.70minutes.

Rating: In my opinion- 7out of ten. When I bought this, I could do pretty much everything covered in it! However, I did improve them while I was watching it!

Description: A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Real Magic at Your Fingertips
Never has an envelope of card manipulation been pushed further than in these instant classics from Jeff McBride. Secrets that were previously passed only from mentor to apprentice are now yours to dissect, analyse and ultimately master. The classis image of a magician is one of plucking cards, as if by magic, from thin air. This effect is only the beginning. There are moves, sleights, flourishes and amazing techniques on these three videos/ DVD’s that the King of Cards saw in his entire lifetime. Such a series could only be made possible by a master teacher and manipulator (sorry not me guys ;)) Jeff McBride is both. His powerful stage persona is unparalleled in magic and his ability as a card manipulator is rapidly becoming the stuff of legend. Named Magician of the Year by LA’s Magic Castle, Jeff McBride is recognised as one of the most innovative magical performers of our day. His singular blend of mask, movement, quick-change artistry, grand spectacle and illusion has won international acclaim.

Volume 2
Name: Art of Card Manipulation vol.2 by Jeff McBride (DVD format)

Price: Ranges from £25-£28 for DVD, PAL format video is £23.99

Difficulty: The components covered on this volume are considerably harder than those of volume 1! As the saying goes ‘Practise makes perfect’. That definitely fits this situation as the manipulations covered in this volume are not automatic and do need lots of practise to make perfect or even performable.

Running time: Approx. 70minutes.

Rating: This one is my favourite of the three volumes. I give it 10out of ten.

Description: Jeff McBride’s The Art of Card Manipulation showcases a modern day expert at his craft, teaching you how to perform pasteboard prestidigitation of a highly visual nature. This colourful, eye-catching collection of surprising magic, artful dodges and impressive flourishes has to be seen to be believed! In this three part series, the video lecture format is utilized to its maximum potential, making it an excellent medium from which to learn this type of card work. This visual magic has novelty, flash and punch- all presented with style, charm and passion. Come face to face with an unmasked Mr. McBride as he guides you through these classic card manipulations.
The audience appeal to of this specialized branch of card conjuring is universal: It transcends all language barriers- the effects are basic and easily understood, the plots (if any) are slim and undercluttered. This beautiful magic is a joy to watch! Jeff McBride puts it all at your fingertips.

Comments: All I can say is this video is amazing as are volume 1+3. Card manipulation is a very pain-staking situation that previously you would have to read from a poorly detailed description with poorly drawn pictures from a poorly written book. Basically, if there were any books on card manipulation they just scratched the surface and didn’t include very much detail. Jeff McBride has spent a lifetime mastering all these sleights, flourishes, productions and his movement skills and now, he has taken his time to explain each individual component in great depth. I thank you personally Jeff McBride!

Volume 3
Name: Art of Card Manipulation vol.3 by Jeff McBride (DVD format).

Price: Ranges from £25-£28 for DVD, PAL format video is £23.99.

Difficulty: The manipulations are very hard in this volume and Jeff expects you to have a good knowledge and understanding of various manipulation techniques and he also teaches most of them in the previous volumes of the series. If this is the case, he just says, “This was explained in better detail in volume…” I must admit, Jeff doesn’t teach any manipulations on this tape as well as he has taught manipulations on the previous volumes.

Running Time: Approx. 70minutes.

Rating: 8out of ten. Mainly because of the lacking details in some of the components taught on this volume! Apart from that, it is great.

Description: Productions, fans and flourishes for close-up, stand-up and stage.
Jeff McBride, renowned performer and one of the finest card manipulators of our time, teaches you the inside secrets of professional card manipulation. Routines, sleights, productions and flourishes, clearly taught and demonstrated, along with sample routines and the seasoned advice that only a working professional can provide. Many of the sleights have been closely guarded for years- never published, but only passed from one professional to another. These can only be found exclusively on this set of studio-quality video tapes/ DVD’s. Jeff leads you through each and every one, while giving you little tips that make learning easier and performing more entertaining. Never has video instruction been more valuable. You see how the sleights should look, precisely how they are timed and how they are performed in the real world. Now, with the help of Jeff McBride, you can learn the baffling and sophisticated card manipulations you have always dreamed of performing! (Well I have anyway!!)

Single Card Production

Euro Edge-Palm Production

Comments: In this video, Jeff has taught a lot of the individual components and it is heavily based on constructing a card manipulation routine. I have to admit, he does teach some very hard manipulations with very little detail, but… there are super practise sessions after every couple of explanations.

Additional information: The DVD’s have better sound quality and a better picture. They have instant access to anything covered on that volume and an exclusive photo gallery NOT featured on the PAL video format!

“This video is the best teaching tool I have ever seen. I only wish that it had been available 20years ago when I started performing card manipulations. Highly recommended!” - Lance Burton.

“Marvellous! The best way to learn this type of material. A remarkable collection that will help the student more than any book.” - Eugene Burger.

“Jeff McBride has figured out how to put the passion into card manipulation”
-Max Maven.

I first bought these in video format. After a year or so, I purchased them in DVD format and sold the videos. I did this because they are so good.

I cannot recommend these videos enough!

If you would like anymore details don’t be afraid to ask. If you want any details on any particular component covered in this volume, just reply asking and remember and include the name of it!

Thanks,
Kevin

These dvds are amazing...
I could just watch the performances, but then he goes on to explain them and we learn aswell. The super-practice sessions, (taken from Michael Ammar) are a great idea. Jeff also adds lots of useful advice to magicians who want to perform this type of magic.

Great Magician but, now i know why he's so fond of masks, falling from a certain tree, catching every branch on the way down..., (Nice Hair, too!!)

I highly recommend these dvds, however, (no offence), Jeff has a really bad jacket in the third dvd that makes him look like a poor man's Joseph with his cheapo slighly-technicolour dream coat. "Any dream will do...."

It's all true... they ARE amazing.

And Jeff McBride is one SERIOUSLY theatrical bloke. If you're into the 'miming' and theatrical thing, his performance tips and performances alone are worth the price...

Kenny, at Kernow Magic has them for £24.99.

He's also having him down for a show and course in May. I'll post an event when I get the details.

Are these the Royal Road of card Manipulation or is there another "bible"?

It is considred by us "old school" types the manipulation bible is Lewis Ganson's routined manipulation. All though I only have the last book in the set I havent found a the other two yet. Jerry Sadowitz sold me it in international magic and told me he lernt a lot from it.

All though McBrides Dvd are the best info on card manipulation about it is the video bible. Another good manipulation DvD for just seeing slights and beening taught is Romaine the Monarch of manipulation. But his teaching isnt as good as McBrides.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

There are other videos and books that describe card manipulations, but as Jeff says in volume one, he learned most of them from a book, and that is not easy to do. This is one of the first sets of videos I purchased when I was starting out in magic. It took a good year or so before I was confident enough to perform the material, but it has been one of the best purchases I have ever made. There is so much material here, that you really don't need anything else as far as card manipulations go.

Since I am from the US, and have no idea what a Bloke is, I will say that Jeff is a great guy, extremely eccentric, but a good teacher.

If you don't have these videos, you need them!
