VooDoo Doll from Top Hat Productions
The Effect
The Magician shows a realistic looking voodoo doll. It is placed in the spectators hand to look at. It is just a little straw doll. When the magician lays the doll in his palm, it suddenly comes to life rising like a mummy out of a casket and stands up straight! Spectators will believe that an invisible force is making it rise up and down. The doll is completely under your control. No wires or threads.

A magical effect that you will always carry with you.

Price: £10.99

Cost £10.99 from www.alakazam.co.uk

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
1 - self working but can be painful if care not taken!

Review
This little Wicker Man-style voodoo doll is well made and the look of it alone can cause a reaction from those who are wary of such things.
The effect itself is pretty easy to do and can be done surrounded but care needs to be taken when performing as (without exposing the method) you could hurt yourself. (Albeit in a very minor but painful way.)
There are no wires and threads and the doll can take a little examination, but if studied for too long astute observers may notice the secret.
This is not a main effect for your act or something that is stunning, but as a fun diversion amongst some stronger effects it will work well, particularly if your act has an occult theme to it.

Overall
7/10

I bought mine for £2 (brand new) of a magician from India a few years back.
I will actually take it out of my drawer as it did get really good reactions.
For the hurt, well, it is difficult to hurt yourself, but if a spectator grabs the thing of your hand while performing (happened to me) it can hurt (tho they won't find the secret. I've never been caught.

It's well made and looks like the real thing. I have had some good reactions from when the prop is produced alone. If you tilt forward after performance you won't hurt yourself.
