I know what you mean Tom, I have tricks that I have not even opened. How bad is that!

I think part of the problem for me is not enough new people to perform to, as a result I need new tricks if I'm going to show people I've already done stuff with. As a result of that, I don't spend enough time really getting good at a few tricks.

Is that possibly part of your problem or am I on my own here?

tom, happy i,m on the flip side of the coin to you, i rarely by something new though i was caught out with the raven just not my style.
ive had a version of the stripper deck for years and see no need to learn any complicated slights from roal road as yet though i do have a stripper deck on bikes now, bridge to poker bit of a culture shock.

ive been doing the cut and restored rope now for so long that i get half way through the trick before i eaven realise, i too get the magic blues when i look at whats on offer at magic sites and think yes that would be nice like a raven, most of the time aftera bit of research the idea gets ditched or i buy and get disapointed but sometimes something i dont like to start with turns out to be my best booking getter namely the haunted key.

Im finding at the minute that i need to change my routine. I have been doing my stage act now for about 2 years and its getting boring. I have recently become very involved with childrens magic which is great because its a new routine for me to get used to but i know that i will have to chane that routine 6 months down the line because of prospective repeat bookings.
At the minute i am in the middle of buying new props for a brand spanking new comedy stage act, any suggestions. I dont mean the usual appearing straws, poles etc etc, i want new tricks that seem very different from the usual hurly burly of magic........Please help!

im also going the opposite way from you on this one Tom, I'm trying to not use gimmicks and learn pure sleights and since im pretty much settled on cards only (at the moment) i dont buy packet tricks (well maybe one or two) so inorder for me to be any good at what im doing i HAVE to practice over and over... cos if i dont, i end up with the sort of reactions i get from magicbunny's file sharing section!!!(speaking of which... wheres our file section Laurence???) so it basically comes down to the old "practice, practice and practice some more!"

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..
