Hi there,

My real name is Gav and I live in Basingstoke, Hampshire. I came across this site whilst searching for magic stuff, its looks pretty cool. I hope to get some good tips.

I took up magic last year as a hobby after seeing a close up magician at a wedding fair, I can't remember his name. Since then I have been hooked. I've worked my way through RRTCM and have just started vol 2 of David Roths expert coin magic made easy. I also love performing 'healed and sealed' at home parties.

I'm a bit unsure of what direction to head in now. I only show tricks I learn to friends, work mates and anyone new I meet, I've no interest in making money out of it. I want to learn tricks just using everyday objects, what books or DVD's do you recommend?

Thats all from me for now.

Hi Gav, welcome to our humble boards.

Don't worry about what drection you are heading in just yet as that will come with time (heck, I'm still searching). You seem to be on th eright track though if you have read RRTCM, and are watching the David Roth DVDs

If you want magic with everyday objects, there is a cheap and underestimated DVD called "Magic with Everyday objects" which costs under a tenner.

It's not great, but there are some really nice little tricks there. My favourite was "putting a ring onto a piece of string, without using the ends. That is still something I use today.

For other more expensive (although more impressive) DVD's on the subject I would recommend Daryls Foolers Doolers series although it would help knowing your standard before making recommendations.

Theres a sticky somewhere that discusses putting your age and standard in your profile.

Anyway, have fun here. I look forward to your posts.

Greetings Gav and congratulations on forgetting the magician's name - I'm very good at that! As I was saying to my Wife last night, 'Er, thingy, any idea where my clean socks are?'

I was heavily influenced by five magicians at a table magic evening some years ago and, although they all introduced themselves and one of them even spelled his name out as part of a card trick (wish I knew it!), I have no recollection of any of their names. However, I can remember most of the tricks they performed so there's a lesson in there somewhere. Possibly 'Don't bother introducing yourself, just get on with the magic!'.
