Sorry to grave dig threads more than a month old, but I have serious reservations about this Criss Angel guy.

I posted this on another forum to get more informed opinions, but I've got more than an aquaintance with hypnosis and I'm pretty sure in advance this is utter bullsh*t.
The effectiveness of subliminal messages is disputable - even when the method is given credence its impact upon a person's behaviour is regarded as low. Take a look at the wiki entry for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subliminal_message (google more scholarly articles on their effectiveness if you like)
I'm not an expert, but maybe if the delivery was coupled with an actual trance state, then due to heightened suggestability subliminal messages' efficacy would be higher. Again, I don't know, but this guy is inducing instant sleep with nothing but subliminals in an "hypnotic flyer"?
All the subjects there must be stooges. Honestly, if it worked like that, we wouldn't be dropping those crappy propaganda leaflets over Iraq. |

| Yeah, you and me both. By the way, I'm not saying that stooges have no role to play in magic performances, but replacing skill and ingenuity with a bunch of actors surely can't really be considered magic? |

Yes, that bloke is just a money making conman. We could all look good on a dvd etc with a little camera trickery. For example; his levitation trick would not allow for people to be positioned infront of you. He sucks ass.

Neither does the Balducci, ace - but it's still used all the time. Actually, quite a few levitations require angle management - do they all "suck", too?
It also bears mentioning that crude language like that can tend to diminish your point, not enhance it. |

to say that Criss Angel has dissappointed in some respects with some of his TV effects would be an understatement, but please aceberserker, don't insult the levitation illusion, because that shows ignorance. It's actually quite brilliant.
What would it take to impress you, for him to really fly??? |

Don't tell me what I can and can't do, you aren't big enough. Secondly; I was referring to the crappy levitation trick he does on the mindfreak dvd, where he sticks his leg out from his pants. It just proves that the people on the dvd that are seated infront of him are planted there. Remember, don't try to command me, I'm no child. And we all are entitled to our own opinion, this is mine. Got that?

If you're not a child....then don't act like one. I didn't "command you", nor tell you what you "can or can't do". I ASKED you politely, and even included a "please".
But now I will tell you what you cannot do, and that is post a message exposing one's methods or one's tricks. Got that? |
