Shell Game

Postby dino50011 » Mar 12th, '07, 20:48

i looked and i dont think there is much on this trick on your site, sorry if im wrong.

The Effect

A pea is placed underneath one of three shells, and after they are mixed, the pea is under a different shell that it started in.

Cost
$3-5 varies on where you buy it

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

3-4, sleights can be difficult

Review
This trick is very effective when done correctly (perfectly). Even if you buy the cheap plastic set which i have, it amazes people every time its performed well. Problems can arise (ill say without giving too much away) when its used on a very glossy smooth surface.

Overall
This is an overall great trick, with simple items, and can have many impressive variations.

I sell a good quality plastic version at NUMS, but the only thing I'll say is that the 'peas' aren't peas, they are small red balls.

the "pea" that i have isnt really isnt a pea either, its a little green rubber ball, probably similar, and ive heard that plastic works best :)

its easier to quickly handle than other materials

i dont think revealing the material of the pea is revealing too much right??
its not the secret to the trick anyway

Heheheheheh

Actually, I had to mention it, as I've already had a 'complaint' that the customer expected an actual pea. In fact, the contents of the kit I sell has small red balls—but the effect is exactly the same.

Traditionally of course, it's done with shells and peas, but I guess I should call mine the '3 plastic shell and baked bean game' to fall under the guidelines of the advertising standards commission.

Oh yeah, in that instance, my IT isn't actually really I. Neither is the ID.

Does this review refer to the Vernet one?
By all accounts this is supposed to be one of the best quality versions.

the package should name what brand they are- vernet or magic makers.

Ahh, so sorry for that.

I would recommend getting the vernet, and if your serious about learning it- get some from scoundrels shop.

i reviewed them on here a while ago...i think the maker is Red Fox (cant remember), but he does a nice line in scarab beetles/turtle shells and a few other variants that are very good quality, and give you more leeway for turning it all into a storyline rather than the usual trickster methods...

a bit pricey, but lovely looking, just like a good woman...

cards4magic have some magnetic "peas" if memory serves...maybe you could use real peas if you wanted to, dried peas...mushy might leave a give-away snail trail...
