Self Tying Shoelace by Jay Noblezada: My Review

Postby Michael Kras » May 10th, '07, 02:31

The Self Tying Shoelace is an effect every magician should own! Very visual, very inexpensive, and due to the nature of the effect, it appears impromptu! The sight is laces visually tying themselves is easily achieved, although it will take some practice to get the routine to look fluid and magical.

Concept: 10/10- The idea of magically tying shoelaces at what seems to be a moments notice never fails to get gasps.

Set Up: 7/10- The set up can be accomplished quickly and easily, although if you wear the gimmick higher up in the pants the set up looks questionable. (Imagine having your hands in your fly in public situations. I got busted on this once and had to explain what I was trying to do.)

Gimmick: 9/10- Although this gimmick may look like something you could have put together yourself after one quick trip to a pary store or joke shop, the gimmick is actually much better quality and much different than some may think! It is fast-acting and all happens in one smooth action.

Practicality: 10/10- This gimmick is easy to install and remove in any pair of pants, and you barely even feel the gimmick while walking around with it!

Overall, I give this product 9/10. It also comes with a very well-produced DVD with Mr. Noblezada getting to the core of the effect. Jay is a great teacher and really explains the effect well!

Anyone feel free to expand on this! Any questions or comments are appreciated!

Thank you!

Hello Again,

I apologize, but I have forgotten a few details in the review.

Something people may not like about the STS gimmick is that you HAVE to be wearing long pants such as jeans to perform this. This may not be convenient for strolling magicians in the summer or on the beach. That is really the only drawback of this effect.

Something else for those of you that may not already know: Do not try to perform this effect for other magicians. Almost every magician in existance knows about or owns the STS gimmick. I have been in many situations that, while walking around at an IBM meeting or magic convention with the gimmick set up, magicians will not point out that your laces are untied. Most of them have said to me, "Self Tying Shoelace! Very nice!" This may not happen for you, but if you are going to show this to a magician, show it to a beginner that hasn't heard of Penguin Magic yet :)

Other than that, the STS is a perfect close up illusion that can be used at any venue for any type of magic.

It is very well made. Trust me, any version you make yourself won't work near as well! The gimmick is lightning fast!

I would edit your review about the setup if I were you as I think it is a little too revealing... Just my advice. Nice review!
