Angelo Carbone's SHIRT HAPPENS: My Review

Postby Michael Kras » May 10th, '07, 02:10

Hello,

If you are looking for a great effect that can be performed totally impromptu, Shirt Happens by Angelo Carbone is definitely an effect you should get! When I first learnedc Shirt Happens, I didn't bother to try it out, since it sounded like it would not get good reactions. Was I wrong! I tried it for my mom, and she was WAY too amazed! People's eyes literally bug out of their head when they see this! It is just that good! In case you do not know, this is the effect:

Thr magician enters wearing a jacket, but no shirt. He exits for less than 1 second and returns wearing a REAL SHIRT under his jacket! This can be sone anywhere, all you need is a doorway, a wall, or something else to go behind for a split second!

Set Up: 10/10- The set up takes less than 2 seconds to do
Practicality: 10/10- This can be done under any conditions, even when there is no place to cover yourself up for the shirt appearance.
Spectator Reactions: 10/10- No effect has gotten better reactions for me!
Difficulty: 2/10: Although it will take a bit of practice to get the shirt appearance as quick as possible, this effect is easy to do, yet SO practical for more advanced magicians such as myself any many of you!
Concept: 10/10: This is a fantastic idea that can be used on stage or street, and even in a quick change stage routine!
Secret: 10/10- I Truly wich I had thought of this! So diabollically cllever and so simple!

The SHIRT HAPPENS concept can also be used to make your short vanish or change colour. Overall, this is a stellar effect which I givwe my highest rating of 10/10. You will use this all of the time, because you can!

Hello Again!

To get the ball rolling on this topic, I thought I should start you off with the best experience I have has with Shirt Happens. I encourage others who perform the effect to share their stories!

I was recently in a production of William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream as Oberon. I was directly below the stage, with a friend of mine working up on stage. He glanced over at me wearing a jacket, but no shirt. "Put a shirt on! What are you doing?" he said, clearly disgusted. "Ok..." I replied, acting as though my feelings were hurt. I bent down beside the stage for a brief 2 seconds, and quickly returned, asking "How's this?", now wearing a shirt under my jacket. My friend's attention had gone off me, and he turned back in my direction, took a brief look at me, and boredly said "That's better..", afterwards turning away again. Mere seconds later, he swiftly jumped back and looked at me, stumbling forward. He nearly fell off the stage while screaming, "HOW THE **** DID THAT HAPPEN? How did you do that??" He continued to rant as I slowly walked away to get into costume.

That was my story. I hope you enjoyed it, and I look forward to hearing yours!

Thank you.

Thanks for the review, and the story Michael.

I have to say that Angelo Carbone is a real genius and an unsung hero of magic. As an inventor he is a background player but nevertheless a fascinating person with some amazing ideas.

I met him at Blackpool this year were he was casually demonstrating a zig-zag cup of milk idea he had been working on. It looked amazing. (I say I met him - I was just there watching agog)

As for the shirt idea you reviewed, I daresay that it didn't get much response as this particular effect doesn't suit (nearly a pun - not quite) the style of that many people here.

It was well worth reviewing though.

um, it sounds like it could be interesting, but how well do you show that you have no shirt on underneath? I mean, if you could separate your jacket and show your whole chest and stomach, that would be great proof and no doubt make me very popular with the ladies. but, if it's just putting a shirt on underneath a jacket, and pulling the collar a little down your back, then pulling the shirt back up around your neck... it sounds kind of lame.

please give us more info on the effect and then we can decide how to use it!

I certianly liked the speed color changes of the clothes that those ppl in "america's got talent" did, if anyone watched that... she was wearing full length dresses though!

Yes, you can open the jacket to show your bare chest. The method is foolproof and genius, and I realized after I learned Shirt Happens, I had been using the technique before, only not for magic! Geez.. ah well.. I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm glad to say that Angelo is a friend of mine. He's a very creative and clever guy and to top it off is one of the nicest guys you could care to meet.

Shirt Happens is a great trick and has appeared on TV... It's on Dynamo's DVD and was also done poorly by some other TV magician (mentioning no names).

Is it just me or is this too bleedin obvious to be considered magic.

If I make an egg dissappear by putting it in my pocket is that magic?

erm I would expect to get a better reaction with "Monkey Chips".

Mike.

owch! at least we are getting some discussion in this thread now.

I would like to see a demo vid of someone donig this correctly before I make any more judgement on how awesome it is... I mean it does *sound* like something pretty trivial, but who knows, maybe he took it in a new direction.

Can you take the jacket partially off to show the lack of shirt ?
