Hi there, my name's david , from Fife in Scotland, just started practising magic last year, mainly for friends/kids/parties etc, got JB Bobo's book of coin magic and other bits and bobs. Having learnt some basic coin and card sleights I'm a little stuck on how to perfect a few tricks/go a little bit further and I'm looking for a good dvd/video to buy.(is that the best way to learn?) I'm into sleight of hand with coins/objects, card tricks and table magic kinda thing. Any suggestions? Also i'd like to got to some magic shows or join a club to get some tuition/feedback or just talk about/swap ideas etc, i've only found the magic circle but you've got to be pretty good to get into - any amatuer clubs going about? Any help/response appreciated :)

David... take a look here:

http://www.ukmagic.net/clubs.htm

It's a link from The Magic Circle website. Dunno if it helps you in any way as I don't know Scotland at all...

It's a list of Magical Societies in the UK.

Anybody else reading this? Then take a look....
By the way, I'm thinking of joining the MEMS club (mid-Essex). Any talkmagic forum members go there?

(I'm a bit scared to go along by myself and not know anyone)

There's a list of scottish magic clubs here - www.users.tinyworld.co.uk/giggles/Magic ... otland.htm
Hope this helps.

Message from the Gods, sorry, Mods - have moved this from Events to Introductions so more folks can say 'hi'!

Hi David, welcome to the Forum - please feel free to post your thoughts and ideas, queries and questions (with the obvious exception of 'How's it done' questions!) etc. We can't promise to be able to answer them all but we'll have a good try!

There have been a lot of discussions and postings about videos/DVDs versus books and the debate will probably continue until the end of time! If you use the 'Search' function above and enter 'Videos' or 'Books' and/or other key words you'll find a lot of the previous postings. And you'll probably be up all night reading them as well!
