Review of "Interlace" - Richard Sanders

Postby Danzoe21 » Jun 11th, '07, 22:45

Interlace - Richard Sanders

The Effect:
Borrow any ring, from any spectator, wave a lighter under it and it's gone! The spectator looks down at your shoe and now, hanging from the loop of your shoelace is their borrowed ring!
The ring is untied and slowly pulled off of the lace and given back to the spectator...no switches!

No duplicate rings

No switches

No pulls or reels

No Reset - Immediately Repeatable

Angle Proof

Brand new principle in magic

10 amazing handling included

Use sneakers or Dress shoes

Devastating reactions every time!

You never bend down or go anywhere near your shoe at any point during the effect. The same borrowed ring in your hand is the same borrowed ring that ends up hanging from the loop of your shoelace seconds later!

Cost:
£37.99 - although I purchased from an ebay magic store for £30 (new), so do look around

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

A definate 3. Im sure anyone would agree there are only a couple of slights which need to be learnt, 1 which I am still trying to master to a perfect executuion!

Review
Right well firstly I'd just like to say that "I.D"'s review of this effect is great and was one of the long list of things that made me buy this! I agree with everything said, however I just thought I would post my own review, as I have few extra points to make to those of you out there who were thinking of buying it like myself.

Firstly this was my first magic buy in a few months due to money, and I knew I had to have such a genius effect. It arrived in a box, and I ripped it open to discover the secret, I was shocked, it was so simple, yet so clever. You will not expect how this effect works at all, it is all thought out, and you are supplied with several props to help make the effect possible, aswell as a dvd, and instruction manual.

I watched the dvd , read some of the manual, then got straight into making the gimmick, which required some help from someone else, as you cannot do some of the constructing by yourself I must note. One gripe I would like to make, is that although an amazing gimmick when finished, the making of it took me a great deal of time, when stated in the manual that it should take approx 10-15mins!! No way, took me at least an hour, with help! Secondly I must say you have to obviously have shoes with black or white laces, smart black shoes, or white trainers. I had neither because I have strap velcro trainers and laceless dinner shoes, therefore I purchased some specially for the effect! Aswell as this I also had to purchase something else to make the effect work better,(dedicated or what!) Im not trying to put anyone off this effect, because this was just me being laceless and obviously fashionless if most people should have them lol, and the making of the gimmick was well worth the effect, trust me!

Once the hassle was over, and gimmick made, I had to practice a few slights and test it out. The gimmick works perfectly, and I cannot stress how much of the work it does for you. Yeah you make the ring vanish, but hwo it gets to your laces? Well that shocks me everytime still, I look down and its there dangling, I know how it got down there, but im still shocked everytime as I dont see hear or feel it happen!

The sleights are quite time consuming as I feel you have to work with something that is unfamiliar however i have been practicing, and i should have it perfect in a few days, but thats just me!

I simply love this effect, it is my absolute favourite, and I cant wait to perform it. I have mucked up alot, so that wont be foir a while. one other thing he does give tips on patter that could be used, which are all good , however Im still struggling, so have a story or something to talk about a ring appearing on your shoelace ready!

Cons (had to think hard for these!):
Lengthy initial set up (once made, instant reset eveytime however)
Need someone to help make gimmick- therefore having to tell someone the secret
A fair amount of skill is involved it creating the gimmick, I couldnt do it, so my dad did it lol
Sleights need fair amount of practice

Overall
9.8/10 - perfect

lol well I knew before I bought it that I had to obviously have lace shoes, and so I bought a pair then ordered interlace, so I had some ready. If anything I think that shows how much I wanted to do this effect!

It's really good that you've added your opinions and it's great that your contributing, but why couldn't you have added this on to the previous review, it keeps the forums neat and people will still notice your new review because once you've added it on, the Interlace review topic will jump to the top of the list.

Can the mods not merge threads like this one and the original Interlace review? Nice review, by the way.

No - unfortunately, the PHPbb Forum here does not have a Merge Threads Function.

The only way around this would be for the OP to copy and paste his review into the correct thread here: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic18465. ... =interlace, and then to requests that the Mods lock/move this posting.

Danzoe, I see you're a newer member, so you may not yet have found your way around the 'Search' function (Top right, of the main Forum screen).

Generally, if an item's been out for a week or two, there will always be an existing thread on it - a quick Search, to make sure you add your views in the correct place, keeps the boards from becoming fragmented.

Hope this is of some use! :D

As a general rule of thumb, doing a search (as suggested by the Penfold-esque Mr Stanley... (hehehehe got you back... 1 all now then?) above) and making sure you're not doubling up is a vital way to keep the forum clean.

Although your review seems solid enough, the effect doesn't warrant TWO reviews.

Here the 'Searching for Dummies' guide (and no, I don't mean you're a dummy, I am referring to the popular books series!)

1. click the search button at the top of the page (the one cunningly labelled 'search' and sporting a magnifying glass)

2. in the top text field area, key in the word you're looking for. Keep it simple... i.e. 'interlace' would suffice here, no need to be verbose.

3. In the drop down menus below, there are choices of 'category' and 'forum'. Choose the most appropriate.

The search results on this forum are a lot more accurate than people care to notice or acknowledge (APPARENTLY!) and should be used a lot more.

Your advice should be made a sticky - it'll get missed here, or erased by that pesky Baron Greenback fella' 8)
