I can see what you mean about having to sift through them but I dont find it too hard as the annoying posts are a couple of words long so its only a couple of seconds to get past them.

While I still don't think its necessary, there is a mod for phpBB out there that allows it to be done.

especially mine :D

Not everyones thought, a few people have caused quite a disturbance among people by posting useless and duplicated information.

I'm curious as to how blocking people would work.

For example, if you all chose to block me would it mean that this post would be missing if you lread at this thread? If someone responds to my post would you be able to follow their response and why/how they have responded in that way? How would you be able to understand the context of all subsequent posts, wouldn't it be like reading a book with missing pages?

Also, if we would look through the archive of posts here, does that mean that all posts I have made would not appear if you have me blocked?

I think blocking, whilst sounding good in theory, would have a detremental effect to ourselves when we try and read the threads here. Sure a few idiots have tried taking over the asylum but why not ban the offenders or at least take away their right to post for a period of time and hope they reflect in that time instead.

Best

martin

I see what you're saying Martin but as it is today I wouldn't mind reading the book with some missing pages. Basically because if the pages are full of nonsense I don't mind missing reading them. And if I reply to the posts that I can see, and everybody else does the same, with time, the not wanted posts will just drown away amongst the other ones, but they will get their replies from others that don't "filter" the posts. It's quite a fair deal, isn't it?

i understand magicforfun. Personally, I prefer the idea of suspending their accounts for say 5 days for a first offence, 10 days for a second and so on.

Who knows. I just feel it's a sad state of affairs that we are even discussing it. :(

Yes, that's true. Wish we never had to discuss this.

I think it's exactly the samer as a normal except people you block have a blank post. I think you still see that they have made a post it just doesn't have a message. It also seems as though you can choose to allow certain posts through.

If it just blanks the message out, then I don't really see the point. You can acheive the same thing just by ignoring and not bother reading the post in the first place. No?

I just really liked this forom, because of the fact that it wasn't like other forums where there was just a load of rubbish posted. When you checked the 'posts since last visit', you had quality posts and I usually read them all. Now you have two or three pages of nonsence. And in a few months the people posting the rubbish will become bored since they then have the Elite member status and will probably leave the forum, leaving us with all the useless posts and threads (and webspace)....

just my 2(euro)cents
