The Miser's Cup

The Miser's Cup
Magic Depot
http://www.magic.org/store/product_info ... ts_id=6055
Only $9.95!

I received this as part of a larger order from Magic Depot and I am very pleased. The cup is made of stainless steel and has a nice tone when a coin is dropped into it. It packs small, yet can be used for stage or close-up.

The cup comes with a basic set of ideas structured around the classic Miser's Dream effect (see Bobo' Modern Coin Magic for a version), but I was thinking it has a wider application than this one effect. The cup is easy to handle and there are limitless possibilities for coins appearing and disappearing in the cup.

It would be good for a coin to cup routine, and it seems good for including a card or two as well. For example a card is on your mat next to the cup, you toss a coin into cup, it vanishes, and ends up under the card (a bit like an Okito routine).

Overall, this utility is great. It fits the concept of the Miser and it will age well. Great for street performers, restaurant magicians, and others. With a little imagination, it could be used for interesting billet applications by mentalists and bizarrists.

Based on value for money, I rate this a 10/10!

I really want to add the Misers Dream routine, and Im practicing it really hard, but that seems too good to be true.

Now I need to get the money. (Im waaaay in debt because my mom only let me take half the money for the David Roth workshop out of my bank... harumph)

Yes, the reference to a larger order was to let you know that if you order enough, you get free postage. It came quickly and each stage of the shipping process came with an email. I am very impressed with this company.

Have you thought of the billet potential?

Yah, if you buy large amount >$40 you'll get free shipping from magicdepot US. If you want it from UK, alakazam got it. Or if you are in london you can goto International Magic Shop to get it, but it is way much much more expensive there as most of their other stuff as well.

I say the miser cup is of good quality. Get it if you want a nice looking shiny one, otherwise you can easily make one yourself with a can :P
You should be able to let your spectator have a quick look at the cup while its in your hand, but you'll not able to hand it out to the spectator and have them look at the cup in their hands!

Did someone just mentioned that it comes with basic ideas? Does it mean it comes with basic instruction? I didn't see one...

If you wanna learn more about Miser Dream Cup, I would also suggest getting the Miser Dream DVD by Chris Capehart. I don't own it but its on my priority wishlist :)

I was right disappointed with mine. This is one of the reasons that I rarely buy stuff anymore...I really hate that disappointment that follows on the coat tails of waiting for the item to come.

I was not disappointed with the method of the trick, which was what I assumed it to be right from the start.

First, I was disappointed with its size. I had expected it to be, about, a third smaller than it is. Still, not the end of the world, but it would have been nice to have it a bit smaller.

Second, judging from the picture, I expected the cup to have a coppery, old look to it. Unfortunatley, it is a high chrome finish and looks brand-spanking new. It looks far too "proppy" for my own, personal tastes.

So, it is one for the drawer. On the bright side, it wasn't a large sum of money, so I don't feel that I really lost anything. Nope, not a big deal.

Mike.

Why not beat it up a bit...take a torch to it, etc.
