I agree that you shouldn't do too many flashy flourishes but i do think that as a magician you should handle the cards (and be able to do flourishes) much better than the averege lay-person (IMHO). Also often when i do a few tricks one person will ask me if i can do any cool cuts or anything like that. Everyone enjoys trying to copy the flourish and failing then watching me do it easily. (I don't mean to sound big headed - i don't know that many flourishes just more than non-magicians.

Also, just doing flourishes is a good way to get people interested. If you just say, "can I show you a card trick", you wil get a groan, but if you start doing fans and cuts and stuff, often people will go out and ask you to show them something.

I agree with kati.

I'm by no means an experienced flourishman but the bits I can do work very well for grabbing peoples attention before you start doing your magic instead of trying to win them over with your first trick. It much nicer to be able to relax into knowing that your audience is already interested in your magic, and not sarcastically saying to themselves "Here we go, this should be good!"

I'm sure there are many effective ways to achieve this besides flourishes, but I'd love to hear from anyone who denies the logic behind this approach.

The stuff on this DVD is awesome, but Brian is not good at explaining it at all.

He comes across as someone whos been forced into doing this and doesnt really want and cant really be arsed to teach you. Especially in What the hell? (happened to Sible)... Also, he often gets the left and right mixed up which only confuses matters further.

I also dislike how the explanations are shown from the audiences POV not the performers. So not only does he not explain things well and confuse left and right hands, but you also have to mentally mirror everything in your head to match what hes doing.

Saying that, you will want to learnt this stuff, I just think it could have been produced a hell of a lot better.

they appear to teach the same routines but they are under different titles and this one costs less.

Even though I have no idea what it was that I just witnessed, I think that in order to be impressed I would have to have a semblance of what he was trying to do. He performs nearly as fast as I talk....pretty nice, though; an excellent review, btw. Very informative.

well, ive seen the demo for this DVD and geez, the flourishes and effects seem impossible unless your a card master. i dont know how hard they are to perform but they can't be too simple. excellent, in-depth review.

I bought this because I do The Man from NY according to Terry LaGeroulds instructions and was curious how Brian was doing it. He has totally made the routine insane and not for the average performer. I can only play this on my computor if I want to hear the audio portion of the dvd. This would make Marshall Brodin put disclaimers on magic instead of saying, "Magic is easy once you know the secret." I'll stick with RRTCM, Card College and all my packet card tricks.
