The Champagne Card

Postby Marvo Marky » Nov 5th, '07, 16:59

Champagne Card

From: www.magicbox.uk.com

Price: £9.99

Difficulty: 1 (Using the easiest version of the one move required)

However this is simply a reveal and therefore can be made as difficult as you like.

The effect:

A spectator is asked to sign a flyer depicting a bottle of champagne and an empty glass. A playing card is chosen and noted. The magician reveals the card by asking the spectator to look again at the flyer - Hey Presto, the chosen card appears printed inside the picture of the empty glass.

Review:

This is a very handy little tool with a very nifty use. Although it is quite simply a reveal, it can be used as the perfect approach when doing difficult bar and restaurant work. I'll explain...

If you feel that a table might not be so welcoming if you introduced yourself as the "magician", out comes the Champagne Card.
A typical presentation could be "Excuse me Ladies and Gentlemen... I hope you're enjoying your evening... Has the waiter been around with the free champagne yet?"

To which of course the answer is "no".

"Well all you need is one of these flyers.."

And here of course, is your opening.

I used this extensively the other night when I was unsure of how I would be received and it worked perfectly every time (well, nearly every time. But that was my fault ).

There are other good points: The cards are 'wipe clean' so that they can be re-used if used with a dry wipe marker.
It comes with a few presentations however a little bit of imagination and it becomes quite versatile.

To conclude

An excellent little tool for bar and restaurant workers, especially for when the boss says "do table seven", but table seven look a right tough bunch. In my opinion however, it has little use for the Layman who wants a packet trick.

8 out of 10.

:D

EDIT: here is a better link. Magicbox was blocked at work you see and I couldn't link to the actual product.

sounds great. And a great price for that. Could the effect be adapted to a different flyer? I say that because I'm only 12, so it would be cool if I could make it a soda can or something... If not, thanks for the extra twenty bucks! (The equivalent of ten pounds is 20 dollars)

Nice review!

Yes, it could, but you would have to make up your own cards of course. It's an old principle so it seems that what you're paying for here are the cards themselves and the presentation.

nice idea for the old s.c. effect, can you get refills because it could come expensive reproducing on photo stock.

I second that.

I shall pop in to the Magicbox at some point and ask, though I have asked another magician and he thinks that you would probably have to re-buy the trick. I suppose not though, since everyone would then just buy the refill in the first place.
I think the cards will last a while though. The wipe-clean covering works very well and you don't even need a cloth. And I have yet to lose a single card to a spectator.

I would recommend carrying a spare elastic band, mind you.

Or Doc Eason's "Out to Dinner Clip"!

I think once you've bought the trick once you could probably design/print off your own, because it' be nice to leave it with the spectators, especially if your details were on the back...
