The Effect
Make borrowed coins, vanish or chngae into different coins on your hand, or the spectators hand, With No sleeves and both hands completley empty after!!


Cost
Around, £15-£20


Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Id say a difficulty of 2 / 3. There is alot of 'looking natural'


Review
for £15-£20, and, when performed corectly it is fantastic, it such a visual trick, people love to see somthing dissapear, but if it dissapears from there hand - even better!! you can take this one step further, and change , say E.G a £1 coin into a 20p!. This is really good, takes quite a bit of practise - not so self-working but the method is Ingenious! the only problem with the standard raven is - you cannot bring the coin back.
well, not the same one anyway, a duplicate wouldn't be a problem. the new raven you can (RX2)



Overall
Overall, for the EFFECT ill give it 10/10, its quite difficult to handle, for myself, anyway so for that ill give it 8/10 for handling/
Price, 9/10 - £15 really isn't that bad at the end of the day.

Personally, I never did like the Raven that much. Yes, it was visual and veyr clean looking, but once you vanished the coin that was pretty much it; the reset was a bit of a hassle. Not one for me.

Keep at it, you never know you might decide you really like it once you've put the practice in and got it down smooth. If you do decide you really don't like it and it's not your style, you can always sell it on.

After using a Bat for years, I got a Raven recently thinking it would be silent when vanishing 'normal' coins. It wasn't. Disappointed with the ridiculous hook up too.

I have a simpler, easier hook-up which I have thought of myself (though someone may have thought of it without my knowledge)

I love the raven effect. However I'm not so keen to invest in it since the method was exposed by the masked magician. I also think your audience will figure it out right away, unless your audience is this guy.

Not the most amazing effect. I have it and it still sits on the self. The set up is too much and the reset is a huge hassle. If you are doing table hopping this is not it for you.

i love my raven and when i shrink a coin with it i then wrap the tiny coin in flash paper light it and whoof i produce a jumbo penny and say "penny for your thoughts" i also use it to do signed quarter thru glass table an amazing effect and easy if you own a raven it's been a real reputation builder for me. if you own one and want pointers on a better easier set up p.m. me the raven helps me with several effects and i never leave home without it. this one is worth any and all practice you put into it because it can make magic happen right before their eyes!! and they look shocked

How does the old saying go..."one mans junk is another mans jewel" or something like that. Your opinion certainly seems to be of the minority but that does not mean it is not a credible source.....I think bmat said in a different thread - paraphrasing to my memory - so excuse the accuracy....

I wassn't thrilled when i first got the raven mainly because of the set up. I made changes that best worked for me, I perform in a black and white tuxedo and I wear a black suit jacket, for me the best solution for the smoothest operation was to sew my raven in the cuff of my jackets sleeve. when doing the magical wave your hand naturally ends up being close to your body you can turn your hand over after the wave to show it empty. the original coin is concealed well and with this type set up you can push up the sleeve before and after to show
"nothing up my sleeves" when doing this after the vanish or change as you push up your sleeve you retrieve the original coin unnoticed. this made all the difference in the world to me and for my opinion of the raven. I also bought a pk quarter to go with mine this allows me to do the signed quarter thru glass table effect. I have them sign one side of the coin and I sign the other side . The coin goes on top a glass table with my signed side face up they assume their sign is on the back side of same coin NOT lol their signed coin is in back finger palm of your other hand the one you put under the table to catch the coin as it melts thru the glass.you will be able to get it that way as you are singning your side.. you do sign it,then back finger palm it and show the duplicate "raven compatible coin" with your sign (that was put on it ahead of time) .it takes a little practice to work out the handling but it's so worth it. Your raven will take care of vanishing the coin they saw on top and as you do the wave vanish you bring their coin to your palm in the hand thats below the table to reveal the coin you both signed has past thru solid glass.looks like real magic!! I so much agree with the previous comment about the tricks all work but can YOU make them work for YOU in this case I was able to and am very happy with it. Perhaps if your one of the ones that hates the set up and workings of the raven you might just try sewing one in a jacket sleeve and see what you think of it that way. many times I have come back to something I laid aside for awhile and got way more enjoyment out of it the second time around. hope something I said here will be benificial to some. I'm off to practice but my cat looks so comfortable sleeping on my magic table oh well she's got to move now. lol

Great post, seymourmagic, and the set up you use is similar to the one I use for The Bat which doesn't have to be sewn in and can be clipped onto any sleeve.
I find the weight of it means it moves to the bottom when you reveal you emtpy palm and vice versa when you show the back your hand meaning the stolen coin/item is removed from view and easy to palm off.

There are uses for these items and after using both, I prefer the Bat. It's like a Raven without a ridiculous hook-up.

I love my raven. I also have raven X2 but i think raven better than raven X2~ i think X2 is too big~
