Meltdown

The Effect:- Astound your audience by making the face of a spectators card melt off, leaving the card blank only to appear on the back of the other card!

Cost:- £12.99 from Alakazam, $21.88 from penguin

Difficulty:- 1

Review:- This is a great little trick for table hopping, street magic or party's. I either use it stand alone or put it in with my card routine. It's very easy to use, no slights are involved, after five minutes practicing some patter you'll be ready to go! I'm surprised at how unmentioned this trick is to be honest, it gets great reactions. It is also a good quality product, with good bicycle cards and a strong and durable wallet.

Overall:- 9/10, the only reason it doesn't get 10/10 is due to lack of inspectibility.

After watching the demo video on Alakazam I think this effect looks quite good. I thought I would see straight through it but it left me quite amazing and feeling a bit stupid. It would be a shame if the wallet was gimmicked as it's slightly less practical.

...Now I want to buy the effect...I hate my CUPS!!

My only complaint is the color changing back. I fear the spectator thinking something along the lines of. "If it was blue all along, why didn't you just search for it?" IMO, it's too much risk for little reward and steals the thunder of the "melt".

Robb - Surely you could just use a blue deck all along instead of a red one and not have a colour change? You would have to use your own blank card though, which should work unless the trick relies on a special blank card.

You need to have Real Player to view the video and some others on Alakazam.

Very gimmicked but does get some darned strong reactions!

There are other versions out there... do a bit of research and you'll find them.

If we can hit that bullseye then the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards... Checkmate!

I just found this trick / gimmick now and on the video I saw over at Pegani.dk it looks like there are no card switches or anything. Really...just two cards and it can all be done in the viewes own hands?

:)

Basically... yes. It's a clever close up illusion. A "one trick pony" but not bad for a quickie trick.

The reactions from this trick, are what makes it worth having, not expensive to buy. Haven`t failed yet with this `gem`.
