While awaiting my duplicate set of cards to match the DeKram deck I performed with them this morning...... I changed them out with a blue set of rider backs & the crowd were none the wiser..... lol ! They were sat there for ages inspecting the riders for marks :) Its all about having the nerve I suppose.....

Thanks for the advice. Cards on order.

of course it isnt. DeKram is a code name for a Marked deck, used between Magicians.

marKeD...

anyway, i like the marking system used with the Rama... which i have applied to pretty much every deck i own. its VERY simple, and very hard to detect, unless you know what you are looking for.

Just adding my 2 cents in regards to the Boris Wild Marked Deck.

The thing that I like most about this deck is that it is cut-out as opposed to block-out.

The thing that I dislike the most is the marking for Jack, Queen and King. I would prefer that J, Q, and K be used in place of the much more obvious 11, 12 and 13.

I haven't given up on this deck all together but my goal was to be able to use the deck at all times for any kind of trick and to only utilize the markings when needed. I'm afraid that I won't be able to do that.

I stumbled across this thread while researching the Lesley transfers for a custom job of my own. I read my post from back in '09 and found it kinda funny.

Rereading that makes me chuckle. If a spec happens to see the marking, how in the world a letter be any less obvious than a number? Especially if said letters (J, Q, K) just happen to be, oh... I don't know... the initials of the court cards!  I think I meant that the letters would be less noticeable than the two digit numbers.

Well, I didn't give up on the deck and my speculation that I would not be able to use it as a "normal deck that just happens to be marked when needed". The vast majority of my card performances are either with this deck or a "normal deck that just happens to be Trilby cut".

My Boris Wild deck is dirty and dog-eared. I have no desire to replace it at this time since I do very little in the way of manipulations. It's been a workhorse and has paid for itself many, many times over. It's rugged appearance gives it some character and adds a lil' extra punch to the slop shuffles. Ok, maybe I'm romanticizing it a little.

I have never been caught with it. I have had specs wonder aloud if the deck was marked but it was due to either my revealing too quickly or the way that the trick is structured to begin with. A marked deck is much like a stripped deck in that you must carefully time your reveal. You don't want to blurt out the name of the selection as soon as the spec touches it just as you wouldn't yank out the reversed spec card as soon as they returned it to the middle of your stripper.

I should also mention that I have modified the BW deck. I was having a hard time reading tabled cards when standing so I used a needle to scratch a break in the border where the mark is located. My eye jumps straight for the break and then to the mark. Works like a charm. Adds one more thing for the spec to notice but it's never been an issue.

Since I'm rambling and since we're on the topic of marked decks, I have had a Deland's deck for a while but just a couple of days ago gave it the riffle test for the hell of it. It's hilarious! It's more animated than Cardtoon! FWIW, I have never ever had a spec want to or even mention giving the deck a riffle test. I believe the fear of the riffle test to be a case of, "Stop running, you aren't being chased".

I have used the Boris Wild deck, I make my own though - I've got his book and DVD, not the International Magic one, but I think it's called, 'The Boris Wild Deck Companinon Book and DVD'?

He has a memorised stack too, which he combines with his marked deck, for some good effects, for stand up / stage magic. Worth checking out if you like working with marked decks.

As mentioned, marked decks are good as an out too, if you get a card wrong, check the back, hey it might be on top by luck.
