At last!

The board was becoming clogged with the obligatory

"Hello new member, please do this..." stuff.

SO...

Lets' just get it straight—when a new member posts, in the open forum...

1. NO MORE asking nubes to post their info—this potentially scares 'em
2. NO MORE forcing them to show age etc. if they don't want to
3. NO MORE expecting nubes to post intros... some people can be put off by it

We'll see!!!

Ah but it would be nice to hear an introduction from most new members. I mean recently we've had some quite experienced new members joining and if it wasn't for their introduction we probably wouldn't have got to know them. Perhaps just a little bit of polite proding might do the trick.

So any way, who's idea was it to put all this info ina general message to new members?

Yes it would be nice, but it's totally up to them. I stand by Seige's 3 guidlines.

3. NO MORE expecting nubes to post intros... some people can be put off by it

:)

For goodness sake!... it is a SUGGESTION rather than an obligatory condition of being a member. And always was intended to be so.

It is SUGGESTED that others may benefit from posting info IF THEY WANT TO.

Subject to BECOMING a member, it would be OPTIONAL to submit personal info.

However, the recent spate of 'jumping on new members backs' is a little disconcerting.

But, the new method explains it nicely, and if people WANT to post an intro, they will. If they WANT to divulge their info, they will.

I would much prefer people to fill out their profiles properly in all fairness. If you check out a few of the profiles, they contain NOTHING.

Like everyone here, I find it refreshing to see who we are talking too. It's nice to know where we are geographically, what we all do for our bread and butter etc. But it seems more people are comfortable being a bit more secretive.

Loyal posters and hardcore TalkMagic users are usually quite forthcoming with the info. It's the 'fly-by-night' posters who sign up and want a bit of quick info who generally don't.

Yes—the system of putting a status in the profile was my idea. And I am sticking by it. And once people see other's age/status codes, they usually follow suit without being prodded.

Sorry, I realise that it sounded like I meant we should carry on having a go at them to post introductions. What I actually meant was that we might need to make people aware of the introductions forum because otherwise they might miss out on it. I aggree that too much pressure has been put on new members in the past to post an intro but I hope that the new message contained a note about the introductions forum and it's purpose, etc. etc. ?

Well, at the moment most members who post intros do so off their own back without prompting anyway, so I don't see any need to ask people to do it, they will if they want to but don't if they would rather not.

Mr 'Fish—don't despair!

All is well, no need to be sorry. You are simply saying what needs to be said, and you are correct!!!

Good job it just dawned on me that you ain't seen the 'letter' which is circulating.

I imagine it would not be too hard to put the 'wording' in the Intro's section as a sticky? Perhaps this would clear more up.

Couldn't agree more with your logic...Basically, your thoughts are echoed there. But at least you're on the right lines.

For what it's worth, the Admins DO listen and take note of suggestions.

I can vouch for that, now I am Orange-blessed too :)

Sometimes, it seems they act hierarchically and egotistically, but the idea is to form a wholesome, and 'across the board' appeal to the forum.

Hopefully, this is the way it appears to new members, because at least if they have the patience to get a few posts in, they realise that the TalkMagic forum is a 'friendly' place to be :)
