The Raven

Postby Mr.Mystery » Jan 28th, '08, 05:54

I've had my raven for about a month now and I think that is one of the best coin vanishes/productions/transformations on the market.
Advantages:
-You can show your hands empty before and after the effect
- The vanish is very visible and takes less than a second
-Can be performed short sleeved
-After it has been set the first time you can reset in a second infront of the audience
Disadvantages:
-You must where a shirt
-The gimmick is somewhat uncomfterable and is not something that you can always have prepared
-You need about a minute to set up

It's a lot of hassle for a vanish that takes "less than a second" isn't it?

It is a lot of hassle. But, if performed properly, it's the cleanest vanish you'll ever find. Also, if you use the "brake" you can perform it over and over again.

You must where a shirt

No it doesnt. Ive seen with short sleeves, and if you dig deep enough, theres a guy that does it sitting down, with only shorts on! Painfull by the looks and sounds of it.

My problem with the Raven was that when I used it with a shirt (which I always tend to wear when performing - it's that or a black turtleneck), the "thing" didn't always manage to get all the way back (if you know what I mean) and would come to rest on the cuff of my shirt (if worn that way) or on display outside my shirt buttons. No fun.

Yeah, they're are plenty of difficulties that can arise, and I have only had mine a short while. I honestly feel for the man in only shorts. One false move and..ouch.

What I meant was that you have to wear a shirt (short or long sleeved) if you want to perform it standing up. As for the guy who performs it at a table, his audience would need to be at very precise angles (no one around him or above him)

The best way to fix that is to guide the "thing" right to the "hole". Don't "let go" until the "thing" is hidden. Another good tip is to wear a dark shirt. For more information check out the covering up a mistake section of the instructions.
My only other recomendation is to make your "hole" bigger by not buttining up one button.
Sorry if that's too cryptic, hope it helps.

Not if that hassle is hanging out of your shirt with a 2p stuck it.

I don't have the DVD, but it's fairly easy to work out how to show your hands empty. Play around and it'll come to you.

i prefer to use a raven but using it with the bats set up, i think it's easier set up this way and just as clean.some of the determining factors for what one is right for you depends on what you wish to accomplish with it. the noise factor with raven is illiminated if you use the bats set up. i use mine to shrink a coin, vanish a coin, find my "key"card, and melt a signed quarter thru a glass table
the last effect mentioned is very much a chris angel style effect and this effect alone has earned me a reputation as being as good as chris angel. I don't say this about myself for one thing it isn't true, but if they feel that I'm that good and choose to tell others that I am all the better for me. My point is no matter if you choose a raven or a bat, and as said by previous posters it comes down to a matter of personal preference and what effects you want to accomplish, but no matter your choice the effects that can be accomplished with either of these utilities can be so effective.you will get the reactions you love to get if you put a small amount of time in the handling of either of these gimmicks. even knowing the secret just watching it in action it still looks like real magic.I lost mine once I had to replace it immediately it is one of my favorite secrets and I refuse to be without one. not everyone loves or uses their raven or bat as much as I do,but I promise you if you perfect the illusions that can be done with these gimmicks
you will get people talking about how good a magician you are.

I have a Raven (infact I have two!) and I love it. I wear it virtually all the time and it is reliable and stunning. I was interested in the coomment about using it like a Bat, thus eliminating the "talking" sound, especially when using steel-core coins like UK 1p, 2p. I dont have a Bat, and dont know how it works, so dont know what you mean. Is there any way I can find out about this alternative handling, please?
