Hey ... I'm planning a presentation about Arthut Buckey and I cannot find anything about him on the internet ... does anyone know anything about his life (australian, yes).

And one more: were (are) there any other famous/good magicians from australia?

Thanks.

:) Arthur Herbert Buckley was born in Sydney, Australia on 15th. Dec. 1890. He died on 20th. Feb. 1953.
Inspired at age 18 seeing Allan Shaw show in NZ. Learned from Down's Mod. Coin Manip. Debut 6 months later, in 1908 as Young Dante, King of Koins. Became pro cardman as Mysto in Aust. & NZ. Moved to USA 1918. By 1925 also worked 2 person mind reading with his wife ,Helen or Helena. Invented the muscle pass( 1948) Wrote: The Burglar(1923) Card Control(1946) Gems of Mental Magic (1947) with John Brown Cook,, Principles & Deceptions( 1948). Card Control was republished in paper back about 2002. Magic Books by Post usually have it at £8:50p. It is NOT for the beginner.
Sleights in 2 of the books were considered too difficult for most magicians but he could perform them faultlessly & convincingly.
Info from Bart Whaley & TA Waters.
I have a review of his 1925 Act & a number of photographs of him.If you can send me an e mail address I'll scan it and send it to you.
Good luck

He most certainly is the first published source 'Principles and Deceptions'.

and is a very likely candidate for it's invention.

John Cornelius popularised it in more recent times with his 'coin falls up' routine.

Not sure why you doubted that Mr Buckley invented said move? Did you have another name in mind Siege?

All the best,
John.

:) Only Gems of Mental Magic which I bought in a download last week. Am enjoying it very much. Card Control I have seen but it frightwened me to death. Not my kind of magic anyway.
Principles & Deceptions I'll certainly look for as that does interest me.
Card Control was republished in soft cover by Dover Publications & can be purchased from Amazon at £4:36
The whys & wherefore behind our magic & its History (my favourite) give me the greatest pleasure now-- at this age.

:D Todd Karr, of The Miracle Factory has just( feb 2008) released 4 dvds of the famous show TV 'You've Asked For It'. This was the show where the public asked to see a certain performer. Dante is on it with Sawing, Backstage & Crushing A Woman.

Also Arthur Buckley doing The Miser's Dream.

There are 67 magic Acts on the 4 dvds. Mostly known as McDonald Birch, Irby, Kuda Bux with his X Ray eyes. Doc Tarbell. etc.
Great for nostalgists or collectors or students of magic's History.

Cost $100, which in Jan 08 was £51:97p.
