Jargon Guide

Postby Whalemeister » Jan 31st, '08, 17:59

Not sure what you all think but some sort of jargon and acronym guide would be a great help to quite a few new members (and a few older ones who were always too embarresed to ask).

You know all the stuff like CUPS, IT, TT, RRTCM. I probably know most of the ones used in this forum and can work out most of the others, but it's a pain and a stickie somewhere with a definitive list would be awesome

Your thoughts anyone?

Some explanations could be done but others would count as exposure which is why the TM word censor automatically abbreviates some of the more common ones. It's tricky but newcomers can be advised in other ways about what some terms mean or at least pointed towards where the details can be discovered.

In the past and the unforeseeable future (but not the present), I have been an active participant in the newsgroup alt.fan.pratchett, which has an extensive list of abbreviations. This could be, if not a model, then certainly a motivation to run screaming in horror from the very idea. <sef>

Hey the last thing I want to do is get into the relms of exposure, or even into that hellish, but very extensive, list of Pratchett abreviations (whoever compiled that needs to get out more!)

It was just an idea to to try and help new people out, if you guys think that it's unworkable then that's cool with me.

One person's help is another person's exposure  .

No need to go exposing ourselves

I think a list could be a very good idea, it'd wouldn't have to include the more sensitive ones but surely things like CUPS (I know that one had me wondering for a while) and RRTCM would be ok.

Why not send out a list of the more "exposure type" ones when they get granted acess to the restricted area? Afterall, when they receive that access they have proven themselves as competent in the art.

Not true they let me in, I dont even know the names of cards. Apart from the 9 of Freds.

Actually sometimes I find my self sitting here tying to work out what some mean. The ones that have no first letter are annoying so please stop Example : *** ******* . Or even worse you know that move with a card where you , you know with it ;);) you know what i am on about. What is that all about.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.
