The Cell - David Stone

The Effect

A signed Card appears in your mobile (cell) phone. The "Kennedy Box" for the magician who doesn't want to carry around a box in their pocket.

Cost

I think the average cost is around £20 as that's the price I paid in Blackpool. A recent email exchange i had with David brought up the fact that its out of stock at the moment such has been the popularity (or lack of numbers produced, I'd personally go with the former though)

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

3 - You'll need to be able to mercury fold a card.

Review

Ok I bought this at Blackpool after watching David perform this at his lecture and in his close up shows. It's basically a great reveal of a card in an impossible location, the battery compartment of your mobile phone.

What you get is a well constructed gimmick that sits in the compartment of your phone and does not affect the workings at all, in other words you will always be ready to perform this effect providing that you have your phone on you. You also get a DVD teaching you a couple of basic handlings for the production of the card and also the mercury fold. It's a pretty standard DVD but covers all you need and I for one like to see these additions when paying this amount for an effect. Enough it taught here for you to be performing this minor miracle within a few minutes of watching the DVD IF and this is a big if, your current phone will fit the gimmick. I've tried four modern phones which just do not fit the bill because of the very slim design, you will need to hunt around to find a phone that suits this trick.

Overall

After seeing this performed and in action the question should be, how can you not buy this effect it's amazing, and the retention of vision on the production is outstanding. My only gripes come in two forms, 1, it does not fit all phones, in my case I had to get another phone and 2. David does not teach the full routine as he presents it, but then it's not hard to come up with your own handling. It's a fantastic, impossible effect that is simple to perform and will leave people talking about you long after you've left.

9/10 for me

Interesting review!
I must say, when I learnt the MCF I spent ages coming up with different ways of using it, and one of the ways I came up with was an ungimmicked card to mobile phone battery compartment.

I showed around to a few people who liked it too.

Should have gimmicked it and sold it for a score

Sounds like a cool effect. Is there a list anywhere that says what phones it does and does not work for?

Mu gimmick has nearly broken after very minimal use, shame really because it's a great effect. Beware though as it is quite flimsy.
