M5 System

Postby The Alfredo764 » Jan 23rd, '08, 23:08

I recently got myself an M5 about a week ago and it works great. I got the prop itself from ebay.com for $30 plus shipping (which is a really great price) :D .

It didn't come with any props though, so I had to find some myself. For some odd reason, my brother found a Chinese dollar, about the size of a quarter, and a Salvadorian nickel ( a little bigger than a penny). Both of these work great with the M5, so I didn't even have to go out and buy a steel-core quarter. The only down-side is that some people it is gimmicked because they are not familiar with the coins, though i say that there may be some "Chi" in the chinese dollar and that gets people going.

The order also didn't come with the wrist-strap, but I made myself one out of a wrist-band bought at the mall, so people think less of it.The one thing that concerns me is the noise it sometimes makes.

Either way, this is a great prop to use if you can find or make your own props. Everyone at school was completely amazed when I changed the Chinese dollar into a penny. Then they saw me put the Salvadorian nickel UNDER the penny, and with a wave of the hand, the nickel was gone, but the penny stayed in it's place. I also freaked out a waitress at a diner when I started moving around the straw wrapper.

I'm not saying that the props the M5 system come with are useless, I'm just saying that it really is important for a magician or an illusionist to improvise and make something still turn out fine.

This is my first review AND first post, so yeah.

Is it hard to use? and why is it recommended to people older than 12 (quote: If you are 12 and have only done a couple of tricks before, please don not purchase the kit. The best thing for you will be How To Do Street Magic) I can do everything in street magic.
Is it really worth the money?

It really isn't that hard to use, but you do have to be carful around sensitive equipment. Also you can't let it hit anything under a table that might give the secret away. They are just worried that anyone under 12 might get hurt ( and you can hurt yourself by pinching your fingers) and they would be liable. It's just legal stuff.

Plus, younger kids (or anyone unexperienced, for that matter) for some reason are more prone to reveal magic secrets. It's a shame. :(

If you pay full price for this piece of kit it will be a waste of money. You can get it MUCH cheaper with a bit of research around this site. Even then, most people buy it & play around a bit & then never use it again.

It would be far better for you to spend the same money on books or teaching DVDs etc.

Can you stop a digital watch? Is it hard to do? And the penny to dime isn't it using a raven or something else?

Not using an M5

Yes, it would be better to use a Raven for this than an M5

Hi guyz,, I'm kinda' new in this forum, and this is my first post..

1st of all,, let me introduce myself in this forum,,

I'm Timmy, 20 years old,, from Indonesia! Ermm,, I'm doin' magic as my hobby since i was 12 years old.. ^^

So ermm,, i was abouttttt to buy the M5 system last week, but then a friend of mine from ellusionist forum told me that i better buy a magnet from science web since the M5 doesn't worth the money..

Could someone please tell me the advantages we can have from the M5 compared to other props such as the raven, the bat, or even the black widow.. :P

Thx guyz!

Hi and welcome. You won't be surprised to hear we've compared and discussed those systems many times before so if you use the Search Function above you'll find a lot of tips and thoughts about each one. I don't think any particular item came out 'better' they each have their strong and weak points so it's a case of what works for you.

Can't help much, I bought a Raven and it's at the back of the 'bought in a rash of optimism but never used' drawer at home, but I haven't bought any of the others.
