Trilogy Bikes
£20
Alakazam
10/10

This trick is amazing. I bought it at Blackpool and it is the item I have used most from the Blackpool purchases. I have used it on plenty of people and not one person has figured it out, it is an absolute killer and shellshocks people. I bought the Trilogy Bicycle back version as opposed to the others as everything I do is with a bicycle deck so it would seem a bit weird to bring out a different style deck. The DVD you get is very well explained by Peter Nardi and takes you step by step through the preparation
(15 minutes max and only once) and the working of it which is incredibly easy.
I presume you know what the trick is but for those reading this topic that don’t the effect is as follows:

You name a random card, spectator one picks a random number. Next you name a second random card and a second spectator picks a different number. Finally, YOU name a number and spectator three names ANY CARD he likes. Get this, you ALWAYS choose first! We bet you can see where this is going and are already thinking how the...!
OK - here goes: You open the card case and remove the deck. You freely show that all 52 cards have different numbers on them. You remove the card spectator number 3 named and place it face up on their hand. You now turn the deck over and remove the cards bearing the numbers spectators one and two named. When you flip over the first two you have an exact match card/numbers! The third card is still face up, Remember; spectator three had a free choice of ANY card. It couldn't possibly be, could it? The spectator turns it over - it's the exact number you named!!! All three spectators are left holding the exact card/number match that they picked!
How clean is TRILOGY? Well, there are NO sleights or cosy handling of any kind. There are NO forces, NO one-ahead and NO sticky cards.
Here is a link to the video of trilogy streamlined (as trilogy bikes did not have a video):

Which Trilogy?

Postby stutru » Apr 10th, '08, 23:14

As for the version of trilogy I recomend, You can't beat the streamline edition. Truly an excellent effect as well as much more compact then the originaly method or the Bike method. I have both trilogy streamline and trilogy bikes. Both are very clever but I have to say I prefer the streamline hands down. Bottom line, go streamline!

I've also been extremely pleased with Trilogy on Bikes but could anyone signpost where the streamlined verson is from and what the main differences are?

Please PM if you can't explain without exposing.

Thanks in advance.....

Alakazam sold Streamline....cannot really discuss the differences here...but the presentation in my view is less complicated and cleaner...

Streamline is with one set of cards, but the card quality isn't so hot.

Trilogy Bikes is on USPCC playing card stock but uses two decks (although only one is ever in play).

Apart from that they are the same.

As far as the spectators are concerned they are essentially the same effects.

In a performance set up involving table hopping etc it might be more convenient to just have one deck i.e. to use streamlined.

Ideally I prefer to have the cards on the table already. This has the presentational advantage that you can begin to explain how the cards have been marked before the choice of numbers and cards are made. I think this is an important presentational advantage.

The cards in stream lined are not bicycle cards, but since it is a part of the ploy that the cards a specially marked cards, this is not really an issue. There is no need to shuffle the cards or make other moves so the special bicycle quality is not needed.

But just to confuse you, there is another sense where I think trilogy bicycle is to be preferred. Once you have trilogy bicycle it its easier to modify your own deck. With a bunch of old bicycle decks you can make many trilogy packs. This can be a huge advantage if you occasionally perform for the same group of people (family friends).

Also in a table hopping situation some might not mind carrying one or maybe a few extra "home made" versions with bicycle cards.

If you like to experiment with new versions and make you own adoptions I would also go for trilogy bicycle. One version I am experimenting with is a slight modification where two spectators choose the numbers (in each case after I choose the card) and two spectators choose cards (in each case after I choose the number). For this modification the concept behind "trilogy bicycle" is to be preferred, but some changes to the original concept are needed. Let me stress that this is NOT because I think my version is a better effect! Trilogy is impossible to beat! It it simply because I always like to experiment with my own - slightly different versions. From the spectators perspective its essentially the same effect.

Conclusion:

1) If you want to perform trilogy for different groups of people and prefer just one deck of cards in your pocket, and if you like the fact that the cards can already be displayed before the choices are made, trilogy streamlined is the best version.

2) If you like to invent and experiment with your own versions or would like to be able to customize and make your own versions that will allow you to perform trilogy more than once (e.g. for family and friends), I would go for trilogy bicycle.

P.S. If you buy from Alakazam an excellent special DVD is included (I am not sure this is the case if you buy from other dealers).

Magic is slight of mind!

Thanks Soren - that's a very useful post for me and it's appreciated.

I'm playing around with presentations of this at the moment and you've given me some good ideas to experiement with.

Hi guys, just wanted to say thanks for the nice words about the presentation of TS. I do like the idea of making up your own bikes for repeat performances.......hmmm which way to go???

I have been doing Streamline for over 2 years now and it is a staple effect in my walk around, parlour, and stage shows. It is usually the one thing I bring wih me if I think my colleagues will ask me to 'do something' since its premise is nicely obtuse and the result astounding.

I was out to dinner in the Euston area two weeks ago after giving a lecture at University College London and my colleagues asked me to perform something and one of the said 'this better be good to impress a bunch of academics...' It floored them

Academics are fun to entertain, expecially those that are wedded to positivistic social science, since they simply cannot believe some of these things are possible. Triology streamlined is a great entry into other demonstrations. The audience is comfortable with cards, intrigued by the numbers, and will suspend disbelief momentarily to entertain the notion that the synapses firing in my brain can affect the synapses firing in their brains.

I often follow this up with a triple mind read using a number, a word, and a card after that.

angle dependencies

Postby Waldorfcartoons » Nov 7th, '08, 16:56

Can't yet decide between the two versions. Are there angle dependency differences?

You have to decide between

a) Only one deck needed, that can be in play before you even start.

b) Better quality Bicycle cards - but the deck comes out half way through.
