hehehehehehhe

That's a cracking effect. You do know you can also do the same thing with M&Ms with a little work...

If you're going down the confectionary line, might as well do Kurotsuke, it's almost made for it...

But you're right, 10p/2p is a good-un. Mind you, so is Oddball :P

i used to do a version of this for kids using a change bag and four red and one black sponge balls.
later i refined it by eliminating the change bag, all i can say on that is princess and the pea

no idea how this works or the k watcha-ma-callit but i think at that price give it a go and if you don't like it youv'e not lost a lot, its not like you paid £80 for a die box with a stupid swingback is it.

http://www.emagictricks.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=5206 this may well be worth considering as a diferent method i asume. :?:

I liked this so much that I made my own props as an alternative. I have three white and one red Budhas. They are made of resin and a little work ith a Black and Decker plus a brief trip to a local fising tackle shop has got me what is no more than a fancier version of Odball. I have tarted it up a bit more by putting the budhas in to small draw string bags so that the spectator doesn't even know which one they have pulled out.

It is altogether heavier and less portable than Odball which is still my preferred version if I am on the move.

Well i got oddball a few days ago and i have very mixed feeling about it to say the least.

Firstly the method for this effect that oberon has come out with is sosimple but effective. An effect which can cost hundreds or pounds has been dubbed down into a trick suitable for both stage and walkabout magic.

Unfortunately i found thatthe quality of the white balls wasn't exactly spectacular. Gna follow seige's advice and give them the once over with some white acrylic to try and get rid of the semi transparency.

Pretty good...

I have to agree with Chicken boy ( ) above me! Like others have said, I love the effect and its simplicity but do feel that it looks a bit unfinished and cheap. I'm glad people are saying that no one has ever questioned the props because it gives me confidence that they will remain unchallenged but the semi-transparent balls do look very poor compared to the black one.

Might try some paint on them myself to give them a nice white finish!

Very strong effect in the right hands this. I must say, I would agree with previous comments both for and against, but personally, I won't have any problems performing this, and I don't think my audience will twig either, despite the very easy method that the trick employs.

With regards to the balls, as other people have said, there is a difference between the black and the white, however, the balls should really only be like a marker as far as the spectators are concerned, the magician is doing the magic, not the balls.

If you dress it up right, and employ Max Maven's idea on Videomind of having the spectators keeping the ball to themselves, this won't be a problem. If you're getting the spectator to put the ball back in the bag after you have revealed that they do not have the black ball, there's not going to be a problem, as the spectator only handles one ball at a time.

This would be a trick whereby the old 'don't perform the same trick to the same spectators' rule comes into play.

I'm happy with it, I will be performing it, all I need to work on is the patter side of it, as to how I want to present it. Personally, I prefer Derren Brown's presentation over Gauchi's (after viewing the demo on magicshop.co.uk) and over Max Maven's presentation of Kurotsuke.

Definite 8/10 for me (loses 1 point for not being repeatable on the same day, and 1 point because the white balls are slightly semi-transparant), and I'd recommend it as a killer effect for anyone, given the right presentation.

just my take on this item having recently got thease from a member on here.
the secret is devilishly simple and inspired and regards the balls, lets face it there not white there clearish which psycologicly meens there cant be any trickery involved with the balls and since you are in total control its all a mater of selling the effect, leads you nicely to say you had an idea for a trick but all you could find were some old deoderant bottles and one rather mouldy and rotten one.

and there are so many ways like a change bag that you can routine this effect, i'd be more than happy to use this in kids shows and to this end have an idea for you to consider, each kid gets a prize bag, 3 white and 1 black, except the black balled kid who gets a piece of rope in his bag and helps you with the next trick after which he / she gets a prize.

yeah, that's actually a really good idea, it's the sort of trick that presentation is everything, and only really limited by your own presentation skills, and it would be easy to think of a nice kids routine for this. Being on a pretty tight budget, this was one of my original considerations, the possibility of adapting it for children, and I think your idea would work pretty well. Thanks for that, magicdiscoman

Hi, I was looking at buying this, I was wondering if with this effect the spectators can hold the bag themselves while they take out the balls?

Regards, Glenn
