Cups and Balls - Uday

Postby lozey » Jun 18th, '08, 22:58

From: http://www.magicproshop.com/cups-and-ba ... -7590.html

Cost: $9

Difficulty: Depends on the routine you use, from a 2 upwards

I have two sets of this trick, both from Uday

Aluminium set

These are 80mm high and have a 65mm mouth. The balls that came with this set are about 22mm diameter. They are very lightweight and look a bit 'plasticy' IMO, but about the quality I expected for the price. I wanted a cheap set to play with before I made any serious investment. They were very tarnished when I got them, but they cleaned up nice with some polish. They came with a black velvet bag.

Wood set

These are 85mm high and have a 60mm mouth. The balls that came with this set are about 15mm diameter. These cups are a much heavier weight and are made of a pale wood (maybe pine). They are varnished on the outside which gives them a yellow/gold colour. Unlike the aluminium ones, they dont have a groove in the top to sit the balls on when they are mouth down on the table. even so, the balls dont tend to roll off anyway.

One of the cups I got has distinctive dark patches in the grain which makes it look different from the other two, but as Im not doing a 3-shell style routine, it doesnt matter to me that one looks a bit different.

This set came with a blue velvet bag.

Overall, I prefer the wooden set. I think they look a lot nicer, although some people might think they look old-fashioned. (That might be advantageous in some performances). If people are interested in a photo, Il get one posted.

Overall - Aluminium set 8/10 Wood set 9/10

Blimey!

I think its worth a plasticy look for the *ahem* spheres (carefully avoiding innuendo bingo) for - what? £4.50?

I very nearly paid £30 for a similar (by the sounds of things) from Kaymar last week.

Youve saved me £25. Thanks Lozey.

All the best,
Croz

I ment the aluminium cups look a little plasticy, the 'spheres' are regular knitted ones. Like I said, the wooden ones look very classy, il bring both sets along to the next TM meet

home. Song's as old as the hills and every kid at camp sang it while trying to tread water for 10 minutes(old Junior test).
Merely as a point of interest I'm surprised you're talking cups and balls without mentioning Morrissey who manufacture them. This summer Dan told me of a set which cost 15 hundred dollars..certainly not made by his company. This info certainly set off those of Excited States persuasion whose logo is of a bird which wears a tuxedo. ron0

My, what could that be? Linux?
That seems like a really good deal though, I've been wanting a set of cups and balls for a while.

While Morissey does make a wonderful set of cups and balls and chop cups and I still use mine. Morissey is not the only one making them.

One of my favourite keepers from the seventies is a recreation manual for teenagers written by the wife of the Governor of California. Unlike your post it scorns such self affection as you describe.."and I still use mine.".
Fie..I remember crossing at Fort Erie..quick jaunt across New York State and down into Penny sill vain eeyah.(Lancs.pronouncer)
I was gobsmacked when I stopped at a motel and read that in Pennsylvania that it is illegal to have over 16 women live in a house together because that constitutes a brothel. However up to 120 men can live together, without breaking the law. " Of course..there's Canadians
An Englishman, a Canadian and an American were captured by terrorists.

The terrorist leader said: "Before we shoot you, you will be allowed last words. Please let me know what you wish to talk about."

The Englishman replied: "I wish to speak of loyalty and service to the crown."

The Canadian replied: "Since you are involved in a question of national purpose, national identity, and secession, I wish to talk about the history of constitutional process in Canada, special status, distinct society and uniqueness within diversity."

The American replied: "Just shoot me before the Canadian starts talking."
