Ok, this is my first review, so here it goes.


The Effect :

The performer shows a small metal cube is shown with six different colored gems on it, then places it in his hand. Then a small flat metal rod is shown blank on both sides. The rod is pushed through the fist with the cube. When the rod emerges from the hand
It now has SIX GEMS on it!!!!!

The hand is opened reveling the cube is now BLANK!!!

The gems then multiply on the rod!! Then the gems VANISH!!! Finally the gems jump back on the cube!! The spots change colors on the Cube. Then the Cube Vanishes Completely!!!

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I would say it is a 3. There are 3 different slights used but they are all pretty basic. (finger palm, a switch, and variations of the paddle move)

Review:

I find this to be a very nice close up effect, and when performed correctly it is visually stunning. In my opinion the provided routine needs a little work, as it has you reaching in your pocket 3 times during the performance, which some people will catch on to. I have all ready worked out different techniques to avoid going to my pocket so much. I'm sure as talented as we all are we could each work out our own ways to perform this trick.


Overall I would give this trick a 8/10 for the effect, 7/10 for price and 6/10 for the provided routine.

Being my first review, I was kind of looking for some constructive criticism (sp?) for my future reviews.

Also, was wondering if any other close-up people in our forums are using this.

Sometimes it takes a while for folks to read and consider Reviews, also it could be that the item is only available in your locality so not much chance of a wide area response. As soon as I read the words rod and jewel I thought 'Aha, paddle move' so can get an idea of what's involved, basic 'moves' and loads of opportunity for individual presentation!

As for the standard of your Review, it's certainly good (and makes a change from some of the crud we've seen posted as Reviews from time to time!) so keep it up and let us know more about your purchases!

I purchased a version of this many, many years ago. Mine is made of plastic (Rod and Cube). The set I own does not allow for a color change of the spots. I'll presume your version came with something extra.

Basically, the set I use allows you to show the gem filled Cube. Then show the blank rod. After making a magical gesture, the Cube is shown to have no gems. The blank rod now has the gems on it.

Truthfully, I do not see a need for showing the gems to have multiplied. Since there are only six gems on the Cube, there should only be six gems transferring onto the blank rod.

The color change sounds like a nice idea, but I wonder if it is really necessary. It could distract from what is supposed to happen. It could also lead spectators to think out a possible method.

I like the effect...short, flashy and filled with magic !!

I'm sure you can accomplish the gems changing color on the cube with yours as well. It is accomplished using the paddle move. You show the colorsof the top and bottoms gems, then you rub the bottom gem and show it to be a different color. This is just an added effect you can do before vanishing the cube al together.
