Quick review of Cardtoon 2

I only own cardtoon 2 but I believe the only difference between this and cardtoon 1, is the drawings/animation on the reverse of the cards. oldish effect, but since I own it I thought I would review it.

Effect - From emagictricks.co.uk
The spectator is asked to think of any card (no force).

The deck is shown to have a stick figure magician on the back, standing in a circus tent, next to a cannon.

You riffle the edge of the deck and in a death-defying feat of utter bravery, the little guy fires himself out of a cannon and catches the spectators selected card in mid air.

Cost
£13.95 From emagictricks.co.uk

Difficulty1 for most people, possibly a 2
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Review
Description is a bit misleading, "The spectator is asked to think of any card (no force)." there is no force, but the spec does not just think of the card and then the magic happens, in order to do the effect you must know what card the spec has chosen.

Usual way for me to do this is, to bring the deck out and show my helper(stick man!) and explain how he is going to do the trick not me, fan through the deck face up, get the the spec to just touch one card. I then gather up the deck and turn it face down so we can see out stick man again, bit more patter about him finding the card, a riffle through the deck, shows our stick man, climbing into the cannon, throwing his deck of cards in the air, before being launched out the cannon and catching one card, which of course is the specs card.

reset almost instant (with the right handling)

Overall
Simple effects, you will be able to tell which audience will get the most reactions, I have never been asked to show the deck, as most people accept the deck is gaffed (well it does have drawings all over it!) but this plays on the specs mind even more as the rest is alsmost instant, could be used for table hopping.

over all I'd give it a 8/10 based on the description, and the instructions are not that great and it does not come in bicycle cards, I believe it it comes in Aviator cards.

Also reviewed at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic1218.php (crikey, was it really 5 years ago?) and glad to see this is still selling and being performed. It's a delightful effect and, despite the copies and rip-offs, Dan's is IMHO the best of them all.

Woops, I looked in the review index of here, and tried a search but nothing came up. Wasn't sure where to put it exactly, what's classed as tricks / props and what just goes in the reviews?!

Sorry about reviewing it I have had it for a while, and just trying to review everything I own if it hasn't been reviewed already.

No worries, it's always good to get more opinionms and reviews and, as the old review was such a long time ago (when I was young, handsome and had hair on my head) I'm not surprised it didn't show up easily :D ! For those who followed the news of Dan's recent sad situation through drink, there's an update interview in the current Magic magazine where he explains a little of what happened. IMHO he's had his share of humiliation so now it's time to get back to doing his magic and reviews of Cardtoon and his other releases will be a great help in this respect.

well at least I'm helping, been a lurker for some time only really starting to post as when I first got into magic I was younger, blinded by all things flashy!

but now, I'm a bit wiser and I know where I need to start from, such as getting my card handling skills up to scratch learning some more fancy moves, which In my eyes help improve the appearance of even some of the simple tricks.

Not to let this get into a chat, but I'm sure there are a lot better methods for the the little slight that is needed with this trick, just a matter of finding which one works best for me. I may have to get this back out have a play and chuck up a video (but dont hold me to that!)

I had Cardtoon 2 but sold it because I rarely used it. Nice effect, though. Mine came on red Bicycle stock so it is available somewhere.

Wasnt aware it came in bicycle cards, I have seen

"Cartoon Bicycle Deck"

But would of liked my cardtoon 2 in bicycle.

There is also a "Fart-toon" as well (£11.99 magicbox.uk)

Quite like the effect at the moment dont use it very often, but I'm hanging onto it as sometimes can be a good excuse for a deck switch or other reason to access where I keep my props.

I've had this for a few years now. I don't perform it much but find it useful when table hopping and there are older children present. They love it.
It seems to bridge the gap between"a boring old card trick" and a kids effect.
