Guys,

when you perform do you get spectators that are close to realising the method ?

Without giving away too much, how do you handle the heat that is inevitably on the back surface (which is clean) of the book ?

i.e. preventing the 'do it again, but not on the book' type comments.

(not that I would repeat a trick)

When performed correctly every movement you make is logical and looks fair. There is not that much heat on anything if you are confident :)

...basically, forget it's there, then as you're summing up etc, grab your chance to do what's necessary...

this is a fantastic book test, I recently performed it many times during a corporate event for British Gas, and it was met with gasps, stunned silence, and acquisations that I was a witch.

Well worth the money, and highly recommended. If you think you know how it's done, then by all means make your own, don't be put off with how simple it is.

Dude That's Cool Magic have just got a load of JB Magic stuff in, I'd highly recommend you add it to your routine if you haven't already.

Hi,

Just a small point; when I saw Mark dem this one I am sure that it wasn't glued in place merely held in place by the nature of where you position it (if you have it you'll know what I mean). Therefore you can easily move it from book to book.

As for people who claim it's not worth a tenner - get real, the raw materials for most effects can be bought cheaply (Rick Roth excuse me for this as yours are one very clear exception) as it isn't the raw materials that you're paying for its the concept. the marketing costs, the dealer's profit etc etc. I'm just glad that people like Nicholas manage to battle past those sort of comments and keep producing things for us all to enjoy.

I think it's definitely worth the price, especially considering how rare the item in question has become in the US. I've been looking for them for a long while now, to no avail. I'm likely going to pick up a few more of these - they will come in handy in many situations, not just a book test.

I've even fooled magicians with this one :-)

I do like it. Of course, the concept isn't new, but a few neat subtleties.

But like everything else, its about presentation.

Isn't this on one of Richard Osterlinds DVDs

A WORD IN THOUSANDS (Koran): A spectator chooses any word from any page in a huge book. Without any pumping the mentalist reveals the chosen word on the back of a blackboard! This mind-boggling effect is fully explained along with complete directions for the construction of the apparatus!

A Word in Thousands is a superb book test, but won't suit everyone because of the work involved in preparing the heavily gaffed book. (Which, incidentally, can be freely handled by the spectator).

I don't own A Word in a Million, but reading up on it, I suspect the method could be along similar lines. I could, of course, be completely wrong.

you can find it in Tarbell, 13 steps, and Profesional presentations, to name but 3 books.
It does strike me odd that Einhorne is claiming to be the inventor though. He has just adapted an existing , well respected , and well known effect .'

I feel I should make it very clear that full credit is given to Al Koran in the instructions. However the version I have developed is different to the original (Although there are similarities) I believe that I have made this book test super easy to use in most books and used a modern gimmick not available to Al Koran. Furthermore the handling and therefore part of the method are far different to the Tarbell version and I assume from the e-mail that Dale does not own A Word in a Million as these differences would be very clear to anyone who knows the original method. I do not claim to be the inventor , I have merely stood on the shoulder of a giant and given credit where it is due. In my opinion this book test and combination of gimmicks and methods are different to those currently available and therefore not an infringement of anyone elses rights or inventions. The gimmick has been carefully made and whilst it could have been made cheaper those who own it will understand why it is somewhat more involved than what has been mentioned elswhere on this forum. I believe £10 is a tiny price to pay for a product like this. Gimmick aside, consider the cost of printing, advertising and time spent developing the method and presentation. (If you see me at a convention do ask me to dem it to you as I have a few nice touches not mentioned in the instructions).

I hope that clears up any queries.
Yours
Nicholas Einhorn (not Einhorne)

Nicholas:

Have you seen Pubtricks.com came out with their supposed "first" mentalism effect, purportedly by Lee Petrucci, called "The Any Page, Any Word Booktest"?

Watch the demo here: http://www.pubtricks.com/video-pub-anyp ... trick.html

I haven't bought it since I don't want to waste my money supporting what appears to be a direct rip-off without any variation whatsoever from the prior art, including your incarnation of the effect, Nicholas.

How do you or others feel about this?

Wow this thread has been around a while.

Anyway, just wanted to say I got hold of this recently and even though it has been referred to as "kids' stuff" due to the gimmick involved, the effect itself has had big impact with *everyone* I have performed it on so far; the effect is certainly far from being a kids' one.

Even though it is easy to perform (which may put some of you off, if you prefer more of a challenge) I think, for me, it has been the most consistent effect I use in terms of getting the wow factor everytime but nobody coming even close to working it out, rivalled maybe by ID.

I love it, and it could be a nice easy break in between all of your more showy, sleight-of-handy stuff.

For those who know how it's done (and who know how cheaply the necessary gimmick costs), consider applying it to both sides. If I was going to offer a book as a rest, I would not necessarily want someone scribbling on the cover, creating ugly scratch marks. The back might be more convincing. So do both and have an option. My 2p worth...

I always have it done on the back, maybe as that's the only way I've seen it done. I also ask for them to put a blank post-it back where they've just removed theirs to shut up smart arses who think that you're just reading the imprint off the back cover (oooh...so close). To be honest, sometimes you can see the imprint that way, so it just covers yourself that bit more.

Where does anyone recommend I can buy extras of the gimmick as I would like to start using other books without necessary taking it away from my original choice?
