MacDonald's Aces

Postby calypso » Jul 5th, '08, 22:59

Effect
The Aces are placed separately on the table. A random number of cards are placed on top of each Ace. When each pile is picked up and the cards counted, it is discovered that the Ace in the pile has vanished. For the big finish, the vanished Aces have miraculously regrouped together in the last pile!
You can watch the video on Youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DohhkUmcSBA&feature=related

Cost
Well, it depends.
You can buy the gimmick for approximately 5$
Or
You can buy a DVD (comes with the gimmick most of the time) for approximately 15$

Gimmick
The gimmick is simple and quite simple to use.
The only thing is that you need a bicycle rider back deck to put the 3 "special cards" in it ---- (it depends of the place where you buy the gimmick!)

Difficulty
This trick is quite simple but it needs some sleights of hands (color change and DL).
I give it 2 out of 5.

Review
In my opinion, this is one of the most effective card trick for magicians of any level. It is simple, but the effect is fantastic!
You can perform this trick anywhere, you just need a table :D

I didn't buy the DVD, so I can't do a review for it. I've just buy the gimmick, watch some performances on youtube and reproduce them.

Rating
8.5 out of 10 - Really cool effect!
I recommend this trick to everyone, it really worth more than his cost!

It is the strongest trick I do. However it is nothing to do with MacDonald even though his name is associated with it. The real title is "The Power of Faith" and it was invented by Hofzinser well over 150 years ago.

The real key to the trick is getting the spectator to put their hands on the ace pile throughout. I know various hot shots with big reputations don't do it this way but they are wrong. The reaction will be doubled if this procedure is followed.

You can do that? Well then I must buy this effect. It seems like I could really fit it in because I do a routine of Ace effects that seems like it's missing something.

Arnaud Chevrier's performance of MacDonald's Aces is the best I have seen. His handling is fairly advanced but it's a joy to watch and I would recommend looking it up if this effect interests you.

Are you talking about Arnaud's performance of McD's Aces or his Starship Troopers ace assembly on YouTube.

The latter is fantastic and completely impromptu, its also hard as hell.

Yeah, most of his stuff is advanced. I love watching his performances as he makes it look so easy. He's a very accomplished cardman, that's for sure.

I was referring to his Macdonald's Aces routine, not the Starship Troopers one. To be honest, I love all his effects. You can see them on the Magic Video Depot. I think his username is Twins.
