easy monte - mini review

Postby IAIN » Jul 15th, '08, 19:58

yes, a mini review cos i've only just got it...

anyway - from magictricks.co.uk - now they're up and running seem to be carrying on the good name of the site now carl fraser has moved on..

anyway, its the card/shell game that's been exposed many a time, but people still love it to death..i have a very soft spot for it...

right here: . see? thats my soft spot...

right, so, £24 may seem pricey - not for me, great for a little walk around i'd imagine, but for me i've got a nice little framing of psychologically jabbing people to go for certain things, objects, numbers...i wont bore you with it...

its not going to be what you expect though when you see it - and for that i love it - you get three caps/black little caps...and a little bag to keep it all in...

no magnets, no shims, no wires...minimal sleight of hand required - i can see how you could make very large bar bets with this, and with certain pen(s) you could mark the 10p that you hide under it...

i think there's a demo over there too..and how about this for good customer service - i got an email each step of the way - a personalised one too - AND with my reciept, a 15% off voucher for the delay...

im giggling inside with this, cos its a nice little carry around object, and you can have lots of fun with it...

8.5/10

please read all this in a pleasant soothing voice!

i've always got my funny head on, there's a demo on the homepage of magictricks, and you just click on the link next to it to read all about it...simple!

though i do admit, it is a bugbear of mine people asking for a link - mainly cos by the time they post something asking for it - they can usually google for it and get it in the same time...

jsut buy the thing - its very good... :D

I hope you don't take this personally, but the price is outrageous! That link shows it at £29.99, but even £20 is way over. If you are happy, then fair play to you, and if you are out there working, then you'll get that money back (and more) in one show.

But the mark up is through the roof. Total cost for this = three caps, a small area of Er hum, and erhum erhum, 1 bag, packaging, a 10 pence piece and the packaging/instructions and a tiny bag to keep it in.. Eeeep! Total cost must be 50 pence.

Can anyone tell me when this product was first marketed, as I'm sure that I saw this on E-Bay a LONG time ago for a radically reduced price. I recall seeing it and (first reaction) thinking, what great piece of engineering, then I saw the price and thought, hang on?

It's only when I saw it performed that it became instantly apparent. I'm not saying that to put anyone down (I know I'm new around here, but I assure you that, that's not my nature), but it just was. Now I know I'm looking at it with different eyes, but I just think for what it is, it is way overpriced.

I'm looking at the School For Scoundrels "An Introduction To The Shell Game," on my shelf, right now. I'm sure I picked that up for £30 (at a guess), and that's got everything you need to know. I mean you can get something that's been engineered in brass for only a bit more.

Machined quality brass (hands in weighing up position) to three bits of plastic. There's a lot of weight on one side of that argument.

I hope you don't take this post as being overly aggressive, or knocking you. I myself recently was reading a book and pulled out an old receipt for magic. Over 5 years ago I'd spent over £100 on guff. I think only one of those items I've still got. The rest was utter tosh, and never used,.... or worked. I ended up ooffin it off on other people. Amazingly, one item (they all went for a small price comparitively to what I initially paid) I actually told the guy that it was utter rubbish and didn't work.

He still bought it?

 Go figure.

It's your money, and if you are happy, fair play to you. But I just feel there's more inherant value in a piece of engineering or say a gaffed coin.

Just seen this:

http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic14313.php

I've got these as well, I can't remember how much I paid for them, but there's a difference between even these two items. I see these turtle shells as more value (even though at the end of the day it's just three pieces of plastic) but they've been designed and moulded. There's a bit of cost involved there, and a larger comparitive outlay.

no - i insist you agree with me! :D

everyone's entitled to an opinion - i get your point too - its just what i get out of it, and what this effect lets me do...

i've half written my presentation already - i'll polish it over the next couple of weeks and see what reactions i get..but i like the possibilities this effect gives me...

which i wouldnt be able to do normally either due to the nature of this effect...but let us be careful on exposure too...

Too many Erhums? You wouldn't be able to normally do? I think I get your point. You seem like a bit of a collector of this line of work (I'm presently nosing through the reviews, and I think I seen a few of your posts), are you aware of the School For Scoundrels shells, the ones that work like micro chop cups?

i prefered the red (or was it black) fox shells - i have a set of the turtle shells...very nice...

this set lets me frame it all as a psychological game more than anything - so its well worth the money to me...
