There is a debate raging at the moment about veal and I have to say that I am on the side of the rose veal argument. No to euro veal but deffo yes to british rose veal.

So I did a bit of digging around for an online source of rose veal and I came across a company who have changed my views on meat!!

I have always been a fussy eater - loathe to try something new - but I have had 2 hampers from here now and I am a convert to alternative meats.

Impala burgers...
Kudu steaks...
Crocodile Fillets...

honestly, don't knock it till you've tried it!!

Impala is especially tasty!!

I have no problem with rose veal. What a lot of people don't realise when they automatically hear the word "veal" and get all sqeamish is that the rose veal calves actually get a longer life than lamb. The image of baby cows tied to stumps in a darkened room is no longer a reality in most European countries but it's what people still assume goes on.

Having said that, I still prefer a nice big steak :)

buy the springbok steaks or if you're near melton mowbray go to bouverie lodge farm and get some bison!!

rose veal is slaughtered at 6 months, the same age as lamb but certainly never any younger. 6 - 8 months is the prime time for veal calf.

with regards veal what's the alternative? a lot of dead wasted animals? Bring on the veal, rose veal is actually super nice... ut do try springbok and impala... if you told me 3 years ago I'd be raving about it I'd have slapped ya!!! but honestly, its soooooooooooooooo succulent and nice!!

my tastes started changing when I got bison from bouverie lodge (i used to drive past everyday). Imagine a fillet cow steak. now imagine if your sirloin and rump was as sweet and tasty and you've almost got an idea... bison fillet is the most tender meat other thsan rose veal I've ever tasted

I'm a meat eater and hadn;t thought toom much about veal to be honest until I watched the latest season of Ramsey's 'F' word.

I'm definately going to have to get some veal.

Dunno about veal, but I can honestly say from experience that kangaroo steak is absolutely mouthwatering. Tesco stocked it when the BSE brouhaha was at its height and it was lovely with chips.

Puffin is supposed to be delicious when roasted. I never knew paper was edible...

Bison burger is also very good.

With my upbringing, I can also recomend pheasant, rabbit, quail, squirrel, rattle snake, Ignore me, I'm an idiot, deer and moose. Oh, and pickerel (but that's a fish).

I never cared much for turtle.

roadkill is quite tasty...

i've had snake from out of a can (that could sound dirty to an american) - from a local chinese shop i used to frequent...

i would love to taste some good old bison...venison is a favourite of mine..as is rabbit stew...cor!

before anyone says anything, yes, i think we should cook and eat any animal thats tasty...despite, or indeed, because of how cute it looks...

hate that argument - "oh but its so cute...how can you.."

shut it! and get it on my plate quick smart!

Absolutely!

Although I have no time for those w*nkers who go out hunting "for sport" - ie. just for the joy of ending something's life with a gun - I'm 100% behind farming for meat of pretty much any critter, regardless of cuteness. Eating meat is natural, dammit. Not to mention tasty. If I ever visit Korea I'll try one of those spaniel burgers. Might be nice!

oh yeah - the posh lot can rot in hell, permanently being chased down by a giant demon fox if i had my way...but then, i'd have to believe in heaven and hell...

lets just wish them a slow and painful death...possibly eaten by herons...

hmmmm....im getting hungry now...what flesh can i eat today i wonder...

i'd eat a plate full of hamsters if they were tasty...or at least wear their skin as socks...

i'd love to eat some swan... :twisted:

Why would anyone hunt foxes when Danny La Rue stands idle? Pro-celebrity drag hunting could be a major TV sport (geddit?) and provide summer work for resting pantomime dames.

Swan is vile, by the way. Tastes of fish according to QI.

I'm not a fan of GAME BIRDS (well I am actually, but not the edible sort of game bird lol :P )

I like proper meat though... Just ordered myself another introductory selection box!! Should get it wed or thurs!!

They've got a special on on the burgers... A bogof indeed!! That's my next purchase!!

The outback pack looks quite tasty too.

OOOH and the lions share.... yum yum

I'm actually totally for veal, people who are against it don't tend to look at the bigger picture.

There are way too many bull calfs born and the farms have no use for them, they're worthless so they're just slaughtered and incinerated. What a horrible waste of both food and life. If the veal trade was stronger, there would be a use for them and that's got to be better than just putting a bolt through their heads at birth.
