Making A Close Up Mat

Postby Lenoir » Aug 16th, '08, 10:37

As some of you may have gathered, I am looking for a large close up mat.
Somebody mentioned that there have been previous threads on making your own, but so far I haven't found any!

Could anyone with experiance give me advice on how to make close up mats, or direct me to a thread?

Thank you in advance,
I'm off now to go and watch the Thunderbirds re-runs on Sci-Fi :D

Wild Card,

There are many, many things that a closeup mat can be made from.
The first question is: Why do you think you need one?

If you can answer that: How big do you want it? Closeup mat substitutes range from two-foot by thee-foot carpet samples (tightly woven, obviously), to mouse pads (about 9 inches by seven inches), to various thicknesses of art foam (and various sizes).

Thank you Peter.
In response to your first question, I have been using a small mat for quite a while and I can barely spread the cards across it, and am pretty fed up of working on a huge table, but being confined and cramped to a small green rectangle.

I think part of the question is why you need one at all! I've been thinking about one for myself recently, but I have some specific reasons.

I thought there had been at least two threads on the subject of making mats, but could only find one: http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic3040.php

You can buy poker table baize from many of the online poker shops. I've made a heavy duty close up mat from plywood, foam matting and this. Also the Bond Agency sell a thick green material thats ideal for making mats from, it comes rolled up, but I cannot remember what its called.
