Help needed with the "Clip Shift" please ......

Postby moonbeam » Aug 30th, '08, 12:31

Hi folks.

My cousin is a lurker on these forums and it's him, not me, that is in need of your words of wisdom on this matter ....

Email from my cousin -

I’ve been practicing the clip shift for two weeks solid now, almost all day long, and don’t see to be progressing much. I’ve been doing magic for years and have got most sleights mastered e.g. the pass, palming, colour changes, the whole works but this one is getting to me a bit as it’s the only one I’ve ever done that I think I might not ever get due to not having fingers that stretch in a certain way. I’m hoping it’s just that I haven’t practiced enough and it will come eventually but I’m not too sure. I’m using Surfaced DVD by Chad Nelson for the method.

The problems are I can‘t get the clip, however I can pull the card to the front easy enough, but without the clip it makes too much noise. Also getting it under my first finger enough to be dragged into place is very difficult as well. It seems my finger won’t reach. I’ve other bits of problems also. Can anybody tell me if this seems normal at the early stages or does it sound like I'll never pull this sleight off.

Hope you can help.

Thanks Tyler

I think I might be able to help, but I don't want to post it here, because I don't want any exposure troubles. What's your cousin's e-mail address?

I think your best option here is to head over to the forums at DnD's website, and assuming that you bought it from the website, you should have access to the clipshift forum where you can ask all the questions you need without the problem of exposure :-).

But don't give up! I'm still working on it too :-)

Hi MagicHerring,

Having very similar problems to Moonbeam.

No matter how much I watch Surfaced I just can't get it down consistently enough. Would appreciate your help!

I have the same problem, and to me it seemed to be the big blindspot on the DVD. I asked on the official forum, but didn't receive anything constructive other than "keep practicing". How can I, if I'm not sure I'm doing it right?

Email Chad Nelson! Seems like flippant advice, I know, but there's a possibility he might reply, so why not try? You've got nothing to lose and he's the fella who can set you straight. He's so good at cards the USPCC even depict him riding a bike on the back of their products.
