First paid gig!

Postby LambertClan2006 » Sep 2nd, '08, 16:05

I had my first paid gig this past Saturday, which in turn booked me for Sunday as well. I know there has been a lot of discussion on here about being a childrens entertainer, which I am, and now I'm starting to see the point of a lot of the comments that were made.

I have now learned from experience that it is a lot easier to entertain adults. Usually I finish the kids show (I have done several just not paid)then I leave. However, Sunday after about a 20 minute magic show and 1 hour of balloon animals (lots of kids) I was asked if I had any card tricks or anything to show the adults. So I pulled out my deck and did about 25 minutes worth of tricks. They loved it! Their reactions were better that those of the kids.

I love doing kids parties, but now I'm thinkng of venturing into weddings and other adult oriented events as well.

Thats what I was thinking. I'm gonna persue both avenues. We will see where it goes.

Also the people I did the party for on Saturday are affiliated with the Indianapolis Colts, so I'm hoping to get some more business from that.

That's great. I always find that with kid's show's you have to act part-magician-part babysitter. I also find that you get paid less for kids shows, maybe that's just me though.

Congratualtions! The first paid gig elludes me, but then again I am a full time student and haven't ever advertised!

I hope to stay down the card table, performing for adults type of magic, but no doubt as most do, I will have a change of heart!

Well done again mate, lets hope they keep coming!

Actually, It pays pretty decent. I charge $100 per hour show. That seems to be the going rate here for 30 minutes of magic and 30 minutes of balloons.

WildCard the only advertisement I have done has been on craigslist.

Well Done.

I admire all you guys / gals who stand up in front of a group of people and entertain them - takes a lot of guts in my opinion. (I still get nervous showing a few trick to work colleagues)
