HI GUYS,

im recently starting up as pro and have got numerous gigs coming up some are alot in noisey pubs and clubs which is ok i have dealt with these alot and a few more quiet dinner shows but i have a gig at a fancy hotel doing table hopping and i was wondering if i could pick your brains for some advice, I was wondering if your doing a show for a hour and a half in a 4/5 star hotel round dinner tables how many tricks per table? how much time per table and what sorts of openers and closers would you use?

any advice would be greatly received.

There's plenty of table-hopping advice if you use the search function.

However, it depends on how many tables you have to "do" in that 90 minutes. Then it's a simple matter of dividing the time by the tables (or something like that!).

I would certainly never spend more than 15 minutes at a table unless the spec's requested it.

As for what "tricks" to do, well that really depends on your performance style. For instance I would be engaged mainly in mind-reading that would segway into palm or tarot readings. Others obiously would be cutting pieces of rope or making coins disappear or twisting balloons into amusing shapes. I would say do what you're good at.

The Wand's right there, you should perform what you know and what suits you. My favourite table hopping routine is my sponge bunny routine, but that wouldn't suit everyone.

As for time, I usually aim for about 10 minutes per table, this for me seems to be about right. I'll try to get a routine to 8 minutes, this then leaves a few minutes for introductions and some chit chat.
