I thought I'd drag up something from the past rather than start a new thread

but for those of us that use the trusted sharpie I got a bargain today at the local "home bargains"

4 pens, 1 red, 1 blue, 1 green and 1 black twin tip pen (so a normal end a supr fine end) for the princely sum of 99p

seemed like a bargain to me. I had to take a risk though as they had no price on the stand.Had I known I'd have bought a few so I might head back that way tomorrow

Miniature ones available from Wilkinson and Rymans. They have a metal loop on the cap for attaching them to a keyring.
I'm not sure how well the cap stays on though. I don't know if I want multicoloured pocket innards...

The caps stay on, but they don't tend to stay attached to the keyring.

Coincidence - I've just been looking for a mini sharpie as I lost mine on Sat night. (Unfortunately it was a "special" one that cost about £25.00 - serves me right) I found the minis on Amazon but I'll try Wilkinsons now.

Just a quick innocent query so please don't shoot me down in flames or threaten to cut out my innards for my treasonous thoughts but why is it, as magicians that we cling on so strongly to particular brands of such simple items as a deck of cards and a marker pen.

Whilst I understand fully the obsession with Bicyle playing cards, or at least most decks from the USPC.

Why oh why do we insist on a particular brand of marker pen.
If you own a Super Sharpie or suchlike then I can see your point in trying to remain consistent to allay suspicion.
But many, or most, won't own one.
So why is it we NEED a Sharpie above all other (often cheaper) brands of what is frankly just a permanent marker pen?!

....
just a thought....

By the way, I also use Sharpie's above all others but frankly, I have no reason to be doing so....
Just 'cause...

It could be because there are many other different gaffed and special versions of the Sharpie but if you only need normal markers then any brand will do fine. I use a PaperMate M15 for one routine, it's completely normal apart from a crib sheet printed in white on black stuck with shiny tape to the black barrel. The crib details just seem like the normal print found on markers and, even as close as 2ft away, isn't noticeable.
