Seance

Postby Chris » Nov 20th, '08, 16:31

Over the past few months there has been lots of talk of Seance, Tarot and the general Paranormal, what with Mr Bells Influence...and the most recent TAB meeting...Although i realise that we have our mentalism area, and the nice addition of a Tarot section!

I feel that so that the paranormal side of things doesnt get lost in amongst the mentalism threads then perhaps we could have a focused area purely for this topic, as it seems to be an ever increasing area of popularity...Although alot of seance and bizaree is based around mentalism effects etc, there does still seem to be a big grey area with the more "non gimmiced (or dare I say naked) seance effects"...

I know Im gonna get shouted out for suggesting this but hey hum...

I think the "Mentalist Area" is just fine IMHO. I don't think adding on to it is necessary.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

A Children's Magic section is in a lot greater need and that hasn't been made so I assume this won't either.

Yeah i have to agree .... whilst seance is different to general mentalism, so is bizzareism (sp), parlour, stage, hynosis/suggestion.... and thats not even counting the magic genres .....

Many many parts of seance come from mentalism in one form or another, so i think its probably best placed where it is .....

An opinion, but its mine lol...

PLEASE! FOR CHRIST'S SAKE, GIVE THE FREAK'N CHILDREN THEIR SECTION! That way we grown-ups can have fun with dead body parts, raising the dead and other such.

I do believe a Bizarre Magick section with Seance as as side-piece might not be a bad idea but it will require some serious conversation prior to formalizing such in that there is far too much that can go wrong in that world and we have far too many young minds here that (pardon my saying so) aren't matured enough for such things... that world requires some serious discipline; especially when you start dealing in chemical magic elements, pyro, etc.

On the other side of things, we have those that loathe the idea of anything "Spiritual" or "Magickle" in premise e.g. such a forum need be tempered well with the right staff. This is where the Magic Cafe has some of it's biggest problems in that all the born-again zealots over there dont' agree with Bizarre Magick and look for reason to boot out whomever they can if they aren't "Disney" enough. We would need someone that understands the more esoteric elements that surround that world and not make an issue of it for whatever reasons (That it harm none, do as thou wilts... )

As much as I'd love to see such a section and of course, support it, I do think it something that needs a good deal of contemplation before venturing into in that it can be a far greater headache if things are in place, properly.

In regards to it being a touchy subject for Young Minds cant we have an age restriction limit on it or perhaps a um "secret" area for it?

I don't know, I don't like the idea of all these different forums. Before you know it, we'll have more forums than we know what to do with.

Obviously you've never been to the Cafe

I know of Mentalism Only sites with over two-dozen separate forum sections, none of it discussing any aspect of traditional magic

Sadly, we have tons of 14 year old kids posing as 40 year old men... (and I do mean that from several levels of perspective)

While I do object to the act of (TM or any Board URL other than a company/product oriented address) hosting product related forums because of how carried away such things can get not to mention the social-political fall out it can create, I see nothing wrong with having multiple mini-forums that deal with specific fields such as Kiddie Shows, Escapes, Bizarre/Mystery Theater (includes Seances, Chemical Magic Techniques, Technical Theater areas like prop aging, construction, lighting methods, etc.) My only concern being that each forum is overseen by persons familiar with that genre that are even handed and capable of being "fair". As I've explained, the Bizarrists world brings in a whole new pile of elements few "magic" (as in stage craft) folks know about or are willing to lend a wide breadth to.
