RING A RING A ROSIE - FIVE OF HEARTS

Postby dat8962 » Nov 24th, '08, 17:56

The Effect

A finger ring is borrowed from a member of the audience and is vanished, only to impossibly appear on the stem of a rose that is sealed inside a tube.

The rose if removed and returned with the ring to the owner.

Cost

£50 from http://www.mikedanatasmagicstudio.co.uk

Mike has a few of these in stock if you hurry as I'm fairly sure that other dealers featuring Five of Hearts effects are not keeping stock and have to order. Five of Hearts tend to make to order so expect a delay, particularly at this time of year

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

1 - Self working and you only need the presentation skills

Review

I bought this a few weeks ago and I can't stop playing with it. I bought it for a stage show and it did exactly what it says on the box.

The props are first calss, as are all Colin Rose products. You get a plastic rose to practice with but as recommended in the instructions, swap this out for a real rose stem and this will wow any audience in a cabaret or stage performance. The tube, a magic wand and a giant silk completes the package.

The routine is actually very easy but gets a major reaction. The spec holds her own ring inside the hankie while you get the wand and then it simply vanishes from her grip, ending up on the rose stem which is some distance away.

You can also show your hands clean when the ring vanishes from her grip. What more could you want?

This isn't suitable for a close up performer but it's not selling itself as a close up routine so there isn't a problem with this as far as I'm concerned.

Overall

Love it - 10/10 and I think that it's very well priced. This will last a lifetime and will get you remembered.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Sounds like a corker. Is the silk/hanky/whatever engineered to help you with the vanish...?

Yes and it's so simple it's almost embarrasing

Works EVERY time though

Since replying I've checked the Viking link and it's exactly the same principle but with exchange rates and postage, you're already half way there on the price of the whole 5oH effect.

Silly little thing but your link is wrong, just for those too lazy to google it or foolish enough not to have Mike's shop in favourites!

Oops - link corrected now.

If Mike had spotted that error I'd have been in for a good telling off

I have to admit that I'm very fond of most things by Five of Hearts and have quite a collection that's still growing.

I'm a great believer in buying good quality items, taking care of them and expecting them to last. I've not been let down so far.

The craftsmanship is superb and I have no doubt that one day they will become collectors items amongst magicians.

When you say not suitable for close up how far (or close) can a spec be?

Let's say if you were doing this ion a club environment where most people aren't interested in what's going on apart from your !lady! and maybe a couple of her friends?

To get the desired effect you need the rose to be a few feet away which may leave you open to people playing with your props. You don't want the rose, tube and wand too close.
