Synchronicity Plus

Postby Beardy » Dec 15th, '08, 14:45

The Effect

Synchronicity is a psychic effect using jumbo Bicycle ESP cards. It can be performed on stage or even as a close-up effect.

Your volunteer takes part in a test to check whether they have the ‘synchronicity’ with you that is necessary to take part in a series of psychic experiments.

They are handed 5 jumbo sized ESP cards, they mix them up, they chose one at random. They mix them again and hold them fanned out face down in front of themselves. You now instruct them to drop the cards face down one by one until they are holding just one face down ESP card.

You ask them to think of the ESP card they they chose. After some thought you are able to name their chosen esp symbol Now you ask them to turn over the ESP card they they are holding and it is indeed the one they they chose at random.

Throughout this presentation you emphasise that THEY have chosen the Tarot card, and also that THEY have handled the cards THEMSELVES and that THEY mixed them up.

There are NO forces involved. Everything can be examined afterwards.

Comes with a velvet drawstring bag with 5 pointed star on it to keep the ESP cards in - very stylish.

The special ESP cards supplied also allow you to perform other ESP effects.

Review

The other thread on this effect was locked, so I thought I would still give my point of view on it. Although this effect has had mixed reviews from others in TM, I have to be honest and say that although the idea isn't bad, it's not for me. Others seem to have found a way of working the presentation into it, but it just doesn;t feel natural like other effects I work with do. I tried it on the girlfriend, and although she was shocked at the end, she did ask about the series of events that lead up to the final revaltation - that is "Why do I have to mix it up a specific number of times rather than at random?" and althoguh I spoke about synchronicity, she just didn;t buy it, knowing that it was key to the workings of the effect.

Overall

Works for some people, but not for me. I won't rate it out of ten, because as you can see it varies from person to person as to how good it is. Worth picking up if you can think of a good presentation - I've tried it more than once, and it doesn;t suit me as a performer.

On the plus side, the quality of teh goods is faultless. And top notch service - you can't fault Mr Black Hart there!

Love

Chris

Hello Chris

Thank you for writing a very honest review, I can assure you that I really do take note of what people say about Black Artefacts products. I also realise that not everyone will find any effect suitable which is why we are (I believe) the only magic manufacturer and dealer in the world to offer an unconditional 90-day money back guarantee. If you don't want to keep it for any reason just send the item back and get your money back!

The previous thread was locked because a former member of this board began to make rather nasty personal attacks against me and others.

BTW I contacted him and reminded him that he could have his money back and oddly enough I never heard from him again!

Anyway, as I said I do listen to all comments about our products. Like any effect the outcome will depend entirely on your presentation. An effect that is a real killer for one person may be a damp squib for another. This is not necessarily any fault of the person of course, it just may be that it doesn't suit their style.

Actually I have been working on another presentation of this effect and have just completed the prototype and instructions. I am awaiting delivery of a specialist prop to go with it and as soon as this arrives the effect will be released.

It is based on the 'Cottingley' fairies and actually addresses the very point that you mention, the handling of the cards, within the story of the 'fairies' involved.

So Chris, why not send Syncronicity Plus back and as soon as 'The Cottingley Fairies' is ready I'll send it out to you. But please try it out on someone other than your girlfriend this time. :)

I don't think anyone here saw me at the Northampton Magic Society when I did my mentalism act.

I did Synchronicity there and everyone loved it.
Despite the fact I was damn nervous and high on Red Bull.

Several people afterwards asked for the name of the effect and many commented on the fact they didn't know how I did it.
The guy I actually performed it on (a cardie by nature) said to me afterwards "Thanks, you did really well. And the thing you did on me? I don't know how you did it. And I don't want to. I want to misremember it and tell everyone excitedly about it"

Doesn't work for you?

I wont complain that you're not performing it  :D

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism

Yeah, it works for me. The number county thing (you know what I mean), I use their date of birth in a numerology type mode. Then when it comes to the reveal, after the disappointment of not "getting it right" first time, I suddenly stop them and shout "turn over the top card! Turn it over now!" and then explain that it came to me in a sudden flash...never happened like that before...I just seemed to see it on top of the deck...weird...

For the number I just ask them to think of their favourite number or a number which means something to them. Then joke about them not picking 27 else we'll be there all day.

(Incidentally, when I did this at Northampton the guy who I did it on looked genuinely startled when I said 27 and admitted that was his number. Score.)
