Quick mention - The Gecko

Postby IAIN » Jun 14th, '08, 23:40

Not a review as such, but i thought it was worth the mention...

roughly twenty five quid gets you the Gecko device, there's demos out there, so google for it...

it works well, you can vanish the usual coins and things, but also beer bottles and similar devices...usual hook up things to consider...

nice little dvd explaining it all, everything supplied and shown, nice box...good, good fun... :D

How funny, I was out last night with a bunch of magicians in Singapore and one of them was talking and decribing this Gecko device, sounds interesting and I think i'll be getting a demo of it later in the week

how does this vary from 'make anything vanish'?

apart from the price?

anyone know?

Looks very much the same sort of thing, although I expect the instructional material and extras will be better with Gecko.

I'm trying not to be cynical here but are we not reinventing the wheel a bit? I'm all for magical creativity but I can't see how a p*** with a few ****** **** on the end really warrants being marketed as a brand new gimmick :?

Also folks, remember one thing: sure, it may be able to "vanish any small object", but that object better be either yours or be freely available, or else you're going to have to think long and hard about how to naturally re-produce the object from where we all know it ends up...

you actually get two gimmicks, one for bigger things like bottles of wine/water, and a smaller one for mobile phones and smaller items..

plus some spare stuff....farlsey - do you think your post is a little too revealing? unless it mentions what you did in the blurbs obviously...

as for re-invention, sometimes its warranted, sometimes no...but considering there was a product out in the 60s by Werry loooooooong before the raven came out, though it was different mechanics, the Werry device can do the very same job pretty much...and it only costs a fiver!

it think personally, for £25 you get a fair amount for the money, a decent dvd, step by step instructions as to how to replace things, make new ones, what goes where...if you're into your vanishes and stuff...well...

its much better than a black widow!

Yeah, perhaps - I'll asterisk those out. Still, given the way things on the video vanish and the fact it's called "The Gecko"... Y'know, gecko... as in, the lizard... that climbs walls...

Eesh, if you can't work it out, you need a new hobby

I think if someone puts together a really thorough, decent and good value package, perhaps that's fair enough... do they credit anyone on this? I suppose, who would you credit, the basic mechanics have been around for decades! Just don't like being flogged yesterday's news, albeit with a tweak.

As long as the words "revolutionary", "original" etc. are nowhere near the packaging...!

i actually thought you got shrink wrapped gecko tongues in a box - shows what i know...

bitterly dissapointed...

25 quid aint bad all things considered, cant remember who if anyone they credit though...

 I hear they're considered an aphrodisiac in some cultures!

"We also sell refill packs of gecko tongues at a reduced price. Alternatively, grab your net and take a walk through the jungle..."

I've just looked up geckos on wikipedia. Amazing! Apparently, if a mature 70g gecko had all of it's little sticking hair feet thingies in contact with a surface, it could hold up a weight of 133kg  And apparently Teflon is the only thing they can't stick to, designed as it is to resist van de Waals forces.

Tefal adverts should say "Now even more Gecko proof!"

the perfect pest control, and you could cook them after battering them to death with a teflon pan...

i may have to watch the dvd again, incase there's a section i missed about gecko-love...

25 quid... I'm gutted! I bought this last week from magicbox in person, but they charged me £45. Thats not fair....

And as for my opinion on it, it's not practical, and itwon't have a place in my routine anytime soon.

THE DRAGON BY JASON RING

Postby TedTalon » Feb 7th, '09, 14:34

I know the Widow and the Gecko? But I just picked up The Dragon By Jason Ring this last week. It just came out in Februarys Genii Mag (Page 24 $30.00 dollars American) Takes a bit to put together when you recieve it, which sucks. Understandable I suppose with everyones hand size being different. I'm Spoiled I guess!

But credit is due in that they solved two major problems with all the others of its type. In that you can set it up on the fly without looking during your performance. As an additional option you can appear to explode the objects after vansihing them, startling those watching covering any chance at noise being a factor. I am still rusty but, the potential is wide open for all kinds of uses. Now that the Dragon can be summoned in the middle of your rountine without skipping a beat. If I were to rate this product I would give it four out of five stars. The initial set-up is somewhat frustrating, but the end result is a superstar product. And who doesn't like scaring the skeptics with a harmless mini-explosion!
