Quarantine by Craig Petty

World Magic Shop 2009

Review by Mark Waddington

QUARANTINE
World Magic Shop is proud to present Quarantine by the creator of the Mirage Coin Set, Split Happens and the author of ‘Born A Freak’ by Craig Petty. Quarantine has been Craig’s closer in his walk around set for years.

Quarantine begins by having a card selected and signed. You then go on to perform a visually astounding multi phase Ambitious Card routine. Towards the end of the routine the spectator is told that in order to make the effect harder you will quarantine the deck. You then show a piece of cellophane and visibly shrink-wrap it around the entire deck of cards. THE CARDS ARE NOW HANDED OUT IN THEIR SHRINK WRAPPED STATE FOR EXAMINATION. As an extra kicker the deck is taken back and the spectator’s signed card is pulled through the quarantined pack right in front of their eyes. Once again the pack and the selection are freely examined immediately after the penetration. As a final kicker the spectator is asked to put the deck away and finds that the box that has been in full view the entire time is now shrink wrapped as well and there is no way to open it.

POINTS TO REMEMBER
• Fully examinable
• Easy to Do
• Instant Reset
• No Table Required (perfect for walk around)
• Can Be Performed Totally Surrounded
• The main quarantine gimmick can be used as an ending to any card routine you perform in addition to the routine on the DVD.

Craig Petty sits down with The UK’s number one Rubber Band magician Russell Leeds and together they discuss every aspect of Quarantine. A complete explanation of any sleights required is also included on the DVD. As a special bonus we have included footage of Craig performing Quarantine for a live bar audience so you can see the type of reactions this routine gets every single time.

YOUR AMBITIOUS CARD ROUTINE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME AGAIN, GET READY TO BECOME QUARANTINED.

Review

Wow! Mr Petty has done it again. He has taken a plot, and made it much simpler to perform and a hell of a lot more logical.

The routine, based on a Paul Harris effect, has been re-worked, re-mastered, and completely re-invented to create a visually strong effect, which makes complete sense to both the performer and the spectator. On top of that – it has a kicker finish which absolutely nobody will EVER expect.

When I opened the box and saw the props, I thought to myself “is that it?” – but, the effect is so strong that a gimmick any different would just make the effect so much more complicated to perform.

The beauty of this effect, to me as a professional worker, is it takes the absolute minimum of pocket space, because it only takes up the space of a deck of cards! This fact alone makes the effect so much more appealing to the professional.

As well as that, absolutely everything is COMPLETELY examinable – could you really ask for any more?!

As always, Craig explains everything you will need to know about this effect in complete detail, and talks about all the little nuances to ensure you get rock solid reactions every single time. Every sleight is explained in an easy to follow way, but all the sleights are what every Magician uses on a daily basis anyway! Even if you’re not confident with performing sleights, you have the added bonus of the actual props helping you perform the sleights easily!

The only downside as far as I’m concerned is that the gimmicks won’t last forever and ever. You will need to look after the props, but by looking after them the gimmicks will last for a considerable amount of time – but, for the sake of a few quid, you can replace them without being out of pocket. It isn’t a big deal though; the effect is so strong that you will want to perform this at every opportunity so the spend will be justified. Craig reliably informs me that they will be selling replacement gimmicks at some point in the future for a VERY reasonable price so you don’t have to worry too much!

This is an effect which is definitely worthy of a 10 out of 10, and definitely worth a measly investment of £20 – you can’t even get a haircut for that price nowadays!

And proud!!!

Metrosexual is a neologism of the 2000s generally applied to heterosexual men with a strong concern for their appearance, and/or whose lifestyles display attributes stereotypically attributed to gay men.

Id say a 2 out of 5. It does use a few sleights, but they are sleights which any Magician uses on a daily basis anyway!
